Maybe he took some youth potion and became young again. Or he found a fantasia in his mailbox lol.

If it IS a rejuvenated Solus Zos Galvus, wouldn't that be terrible news for well... everyone not a Garlean? This is the guy who founded the empire and had the military acumen necessary to see it conquer a pretty hefty chunk of the planet, after all.
As an aside, I'm glad to see they finally put his crown into the game. It's nifty.
I don't think it will be Solus. That's just too boring.
I really doubt Solus Zos Galvus really is dead. It would be a waste of a great concept art to kill him off without first showing him on screen. Then again, the huy from the patch video is most likely Ishgardian, as the story is now moving towards Ishgard for obvious reasons(cough Heavensward cough)

He didn't mean that, he said that this cutscene could be a propable be related to 3.0 .Thats quite interesting since we havent hear anything about garleans since 2.0, so seeing them back on 3.0 as the new main enemie is interesting. I understand the emperor's anger. after all they had conquerer. they just stoped on an small cpuntry called Eorzea, and they failed 3 times lol If I'm the emperor I would be mad to ><
I just want to know - why the dragons? Everything always comes back to the dragons. Ishgard's fighting dragons, the Allag enslaved dragons, the Sharlayans built in dragon territory, the Garleans got their asses handed to them by dragons and yet wear dragon iconography like the Allag did...![]()
New Garlean emperor or not I'd like to see what people in Garlean territory have to live through, both 'pure' citizens and those from conquered territories. I'm hoping it's more than just a big military and has a little more culture and social structures around it. Something similar to the Arcadian empire for example.
Only thing we really know is that people from recently conquered territories are sent to take over the next one and children are brainwashed to hate primals and beastmen.
To be honest, this new Garlean Emperor has a slightly different set of armour than the concept art of Solus... the "dragon" crown is definitely the same, but the gear around the chest, waist and lower torso is slightly different. I too would have LOVED to see what kind of person Solus really is... but we shouldn't rule out the possibility that he might not yet be dead but rather too weak to continue to carry out his duties.
Perhaps the old man is in cryo-sleep and the new chap is just a regent for now... who knows?
Nonetheless, I'm in the camp of people who are speculating that its his son... or even a grandson. Remember that a war of succession has already broken out which was what inspired the Domans to revolt for independence. It just makes sense that in the future (perhaps two years from now), the Devs might eventually open the Garlean empire to us in expansion 4.0. Thus, having some sibling rivalry towards this new younger emperor opens up a LOT of opputunity to really flesh out the lore.
I'm saying this yet again: My guess is that Solus has more that one offspring... possibly three. Two older sons who are vying for the throne and a youngest daughter who is a Legatus. The irony could be that this youngest child (the daughter who is a legatus) is actually the most capable of the three children; thus the justification of why a war of succession occurs.
Just my few pennies into the pond.
"After ten years, finally headed to Sharlayan... absolutely stoked"
I personally think it is Emperor Solus rejuvenated by Ascian magic and manipulated to conquer the lowlands of Coerthas or something of the sort to match the new locations of 3.0 and post 3.0. It has been the central plot device in 2.0 and it'll be the plot device for 3.0 as well with the Archbishop of Coerthas being manipulated by them. Either that or he is his son following the orders/walking in the footsteps of his father the Emperor.
For a loooong time, Solus was on the antagonist list of the official website but never made an appearance. Furthermore, he was recently illustrated by the artist team for the first year anniversary with stunning details and additions.
I doubt they would write down such a build-up to have him die or be replaced at the end. This guy is behind of so many things in the world of Eorzea... They wouldn't kill him off and I'm pretty sure the Ascians won't allow him to die either.
