player made items sold at npc store

    Hello everyone,

I had an idea and i post it here because i don't know where else to post it, nor do i know what dev number it requires. I don't know where you find those numbers /blush

Ok so first off, i like to rank up all classes at the same time because i general i want to make everything myself even though i do buy a lot of stuff. During my time in the game there were lost of times when certain items where out of reach for my classes. While the class to make the weapon or whatever was perfectly fine. I just needed a higher level item to make it. For example: somewhere in the process of making a r18 bow you need to be a r28 carpenter I call it a massive inbalance, but since this is my first mmo, i actually play beyond the trial, i guess that i have to stop ranking up all classes or something, or do something usefull with my linkshell mates.
However most items, lets say dodo leather spetch, are not exactly items you ask for when you just want one. (none mmo attitude perhaps?) So i came up with an idea.

What if you could craft/gather/non exclusive lootdrops items and sell it to an npc, and then the npc/guild/guy inside the marketwards would have it available for sale?

Maybe something like: you sell a sheep leather spetch to an npc in limsa and then in the gridania guild you can all of a sudden buy a sheep leather spetch. But it would also be fun, i think, that the number of "player items" are limited to the number sold. So no store is going to sell 30 sheep leather spetches as long as there are 10 spetches sold to npc's

I think it will help a lot of players who are only interested in just one material for whatever they are making and just need a little help. Because if its up to the players i think there are some obstacles in the way:

    1. not enough bazaarspace, to seriously undertake such actions
    2. selling leather vamps isn't the most fantastic thing to do, i mean how much are you going to get surely not enough to make it worth your time
    3. it doesn't give some sort of status symbol to the player

I just think that this whole mmo economy thing is just "player gets a sword -> sells it for the highest price possible -> player is the richest guy in history = fun!!" And i like to have another important aspect of an economy which is "availability" which, i think, is also fun

Now the price you sell it for shouldn't be something outrages, but should serve as a little push in the direction of gaining another rank. Like today i was making some growth formula gamma so i could make a conjurer weapon of sorts. So what if i just go to an npc and sell 4 growth formula gamma for something small, let say 1 gil and 1 sp, and make it available for some r19 carpenter. Wouldn't that be great that you could buy that, as a r19 carpenter and not bother your friends while they are killing batraal. Nobody was bothered with some low level task they dont even get sp for, and we have a very happy carpenter.

I hope i you can understand me, but i did give it some thing to think about. I just think that if you make the "sale price to npc" low enough it won't be a powerlevelling tool. But at the same time for those who are just interested in that one out-of-reach item can just buy it and get on with their game.

It is a bummer that items we sell to vendors just disappear into their stock never to be seen again. I guess they assume that there is some other guild/shop where they can turn a profit on almost anything. It would be nice, though, if they didn't do so immediately, instead held on to them for a given time. And it doesn't even have to be limited to player-made items. It could be any items sold to a vendor.

But then you run into the overstocking issue, so on a regular basis, say daily, they manage to 'sell' their overstock to another outside buyer and the process starts over again.

Another issue would be that now certain items could only be sold to certain vendors. Suddenly, a clothing vendor would be uninterested in purchasing ore, for example. This would be necessary because I wouldn't want to hit every vendor looking for a certain item. That would just recreate the initial flaws of the market wards (before search). If I were the clothing vendor, even if I knew an ore vendor, I wouldn't buy ore. Knowing that the other vendor would also wish to turn a profit, they would not be interested in buying from me at a price that would net me a profit on the transaction.

Reducing sell price would not be a great idea, instead, it's better to raise buy price.

I can imagine one annoying (but realistic) instance where I see a vendor has an item I want in stock, so I attempt to buy it only to get a message saying "Sorry, I just sold my last one."

It would be nice for NPCs to deal in re-sales.
I would imagine all the trash people vendor at NPCs would suddenly become available...and OMG, I can finally buy some rare steaks to eat.
