Method to condense item stacks?

With all these changes upcoming to item qualities, recipes and storage space, there's bound to be some partial stacks floating around in inventories.

As far as I'm aware, unless you trade with your retainer, there's no way to condense these partial stacks. Which is all well and good if you happen to be in town.

But, for example, I was out fishing tonight. As I was doing my leves, I decided to switch out a stack of four pill bugs for a full stack of 99, in the event Sweat of Brow activated so that I could make full use of the opportunity without losing it due to bait running out.

Later, I found that there was no way to combine my stack of 4 and 89 while in the field. I ended up having to ditch my stack of four to get an item in my loot list. I tried the "toggle sort" option, but that didn't cut it.

Just wondering if there's something I'm missing? Is there a way to combine stacks?
