Achievement Points: Give them a purpose

As it is now, you accrue Achievement Points as you complete achievements, however while you can gain things from the achievements themselves such as items and titles, there is nothing gained from the amount of achievement point that you have acquired.

In Guild Wars 2 players would unlock bonuses, such as special weapon skins, when they reached certain amounts of total achievement points.

I feel that FF14: ARR is perfectly setup to do something like this and could gift the achievement hunters with some extra stuff as special titles and glamour gear.

Not really, since 1.0 had achievements that haven't transferred to 2.0 yet, so 1.0 players can have an advantage using this, unless SE were to filter the points to only matter for 2.0 achievements.

I'd happy exchange 2000 of my achievement points for some commendations. They're so hard to raise as a DPS.

Really? You want those points whose sole purpose is to measure your e-peen to mean something? That seems a little silly, I think. So what if you have thousands of achievement points, they don't mean a thing so what's the point?

No!! Achievements shouldn't mean anything. there are lots of gamers who don't care about it and don't force them to care.

What about giving you an achievement for reaching a certain amount of achievement points?

Saying this as someone who never played 1.X, I'm perfectly fine with a system that acknowledges the 1.X achievements. I'd like to suggest an idea inspired by the Reputation systems in other MMOs. Basically, have a special shop whose inventory becomes more and more available the higher your achievement points are. At 100 Achievement Points, throw up some Aetheryte Tickets for 100 gil apiece. At 500, throw up dyes at standard market price and ventures sold at 5000 gil each. At 1000, unlock some minions and furniture pieces. Maybe have later tiers grant barding, mounts, rare furniture pieces, glamour pieces, etc.

That way, they're less of a thing to be spent, but more of a measure of one's reputation, which is what achievements are anyway, right?

People that don't care about glamour aren't forced to drop 1m on some augmented chest piece, are they? Even the people who do care about glamour, if the 1m price isn't justified enough for them to spend it, then they won't.

Basically, if they do what OP is suggesting, this would be the same thing. Earning achievement points for glamour purposes. This actually already exists, and through achievements as well, haven't you ever seen the Paragon's Crown or chest? OP is suggesting that they take that system and add more to it. It would flesh out the game, give more stuff to do, and add more glamour to the game that you can't just simply buy. This is a fantastic idea.

Those that care enough about the reward will justify the steps they have to take to get it. Those that can't justify the time spent to do that, won't. Nobody would be forced to care about anything.
