    "FFXIV Has Stopped Working"

I know there is a few threads on this but I can't seem to find an answer.

It never happened on my old ATI raedeon on windows 7 but ever since I started playing again with a GTX 770 on windows 8 it happens now. IT happens randomly, mostly when im in cities however. But in dungeons and free roaming it happens too.

    I have tried:
    • Reinstalling the game
    • Reinstalling windows 8.1
    • Updating Drivers
    • Using Beta drivers
    • Downgrading Drivers
    • Running 5 passes of memtest86
    • Changing compatibility to windows 7
    • Reinstalling from online and from the game disk
    • CheckinG GPU temps (which are around 50 full load)
    • Checking CPU temps (50 full load)
    • Updating Audio and Motherboard drivers..

I'm so lost, I just want to play the game and I don't know what to do...

when u upgraded or downgraded graphics driver did u remember to remove the old graphics driver fully? if u use the uninstaller which came with the graphics driver it wont remove the graphics driver fully so this problem can keep occuring. u can probs find the old graphics drivers in your windows directory if you not sure where to have a look for them then just do a google search on the type of graphics driver u got.

what id recommend is use a program like driver fusion or any other program which can remove driver fully then restart computer and reinstall a older or newer graphics driver. but yeah gotta make sure the graphics driver and previous drivers u installed is fully removed to fix the problem if its the graphics driver causing the issue like i think it is by what it sounds like.

another thing which could be causing the issue is sometimes windows doesnt allow u to use software/games on certain resolutions like for example hdtv 1080p to fix this if this is the issue causing the problem then u could fix it by going into graphics driver control panel and change it to 1680 x 1050 resolution size or whatever is basic size for monitor u using seeing as hdtv could be a problem also but do this by the graphics driver control panel.

I recently got this error this morning after the recent patch update today. Small patch it but caused my game file to crash. Lucky for me i have a back up of the game that just needs the 2.3 update. Hopefully it works.

First place you should check is the Event Viewer. It's located in Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Event Viewer. Open the Custom Log and click on Administrative Events. Look at the FFXIV errors. Google the EventID. Post the contents of the error event here.

I have the same problem, really taking the p*ss now. Came back home after being away to update to 2.3, and then it starts crashing after log in and press play, came home from work today to find another update...still doing exactly the same thing. Now paying for a game/service that doesn't work at all. First i thought it was due to a few windows 7 updates...uninstalled them and reinstalled my AMD R9 270X drivers and still getting the same thing. sounds like a lot of people are having this problem.

    Fixed my problem

Hey guys, I had the same problem for a few days now, finally fixed the problem. I changed my screen resolution, which seemed to be the right solution.

I got the same thing just now, my client still able to run and play the game after 2.3 update. The game client start crashing after my windows 8 is updated this morning. Before windows 8 update it works fine.

Edit: restarted my laptop, doesn't work.
Edit2: changing resolution also doesn't work.
Edit3: Found something so wrong on my laptop.... no audio from both speaker and headphone lol, video still working, just no sound at all! It was working fine before the update.

I always use driver sweeper XD

EDIT- changing my computer's native resolution and the game resolution to 1600- 1200 did not fix the problem. My native is also 1080p

still having the same problem however, i went in to my docs/my games and deleted the cfg files in the FF14 folder. I had 3 files in mine. I am wondering if its that amd raptr software that optimises games. I dont even use raptr yet it optimised my game and left another cfg file with 2 other official ff14 files. I deleted them all and tried logging in again. seemed to have logged me in again after putting all my details back in and running it in window mode. just about to change it back to triple monitor 5760x1080. No doubt when i come to logging back in again, it will crash again.

Do you use MotionJoy? I was having this issue. Then I discovered that if launched the "DS3tool" application at anytime before the I launched the game, it wouldn't launch, either simply closing the Window upon start-up, or giving me a "FFXIV Stopped Working" message. After the game has launched, I was able to launch MotionJoy and enable my Dualshock 3 to work as a Playstation 2 controller. This means that I must restart the computer every time I want to launch the game a second time though.

I'm not really 100% sure if it's MotionJoy, but it's definitely an application or service that must be started before the game is launched that's causing the problem. And the problem did not exist before the 2.3 patch. I did *nothing* with the computer (no restarting, no logging out, not even putting the computer to sleep) between the time I used the game before the patch, and after I installed the patch.
