Patch 2.3 breaks compatiability with Server Editions of Windows

    See thread here: http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...Server-2008-R2

Confirmed to be broken under patch 2.3 (DirectX not detected)

    Windows Server 2008 R2
    Windows Home Server 2011
    Windows Server 2012
    Windows Server 2012 R2

None of us running server editions of Windows can play post patch. The Launcher fails to start after the boot executable updates them.

Also we have all confirmed we do have the latest versions of DirectX installed, just chucking that in there before someone suggests that.

Indeed, all of us were playing yesterday, and can still play our other games today.

We've posted some sysinfo dumps in the other thread. However this patch changed the way the ffxivlauncher.exe is verifying DirectX version seems to be the issue.

Why would you ever use a server OS to play games?

because students can get it for free.. and you can re-enable practically everything that's stripped out of a home version to turn it into a standard workstation... In the end it wasn't an issue for any of us yesterday, it's just this patch.

Work all day (client-server software development), play all night, same machine. All work and no play makes jack a dull boy.

A good development machine has a strong processor and RAM, throw in a good video card and you have a good video game machine too. The server versions of Windows tend to have everything the consumer versions do (just turned off by default), so turn it on and there is no reason you can't work and play on the same machine.

    FOUND A FIX

Seeing as it worked for my mate i wondered whether I had missed something during the conversion to desktop. went to the usual site and they've released and automated converter
    http://www.win2008workstation.com/fo...hp?f=21&t=1924
    Downloader:
    https://mega.co.nz/#!JEwHkBiY!DONJOC...wvpaz_dS_Tdrj0

Ran this, ticked practically everything except obvious stuff that'd have no effect, now loading (no restart required I found)
