Am I missing something? Selection Question on PS4

    Hi,

so today I got my summoner to 50 and decided to do the scholar 30-50 job quests too. There were a couple that needed me to heal the main NPC as they're a little squishy which is fine but I find selecting the npc virtually impossible on the PS4 controller, am I missing something?

I can select duty npcs if the camera is pointing directly at them and nothing else is on the screen no problem using the X. If there are enemies it selects enemies over the npc. If I cycle using the right and left directional buttons it only cycles through enemies.

I looked in configuration and set the triangle combination to only select npcs, duty npcs and friendlies. This didn't work it still cycled through only enemies when using the directional pad. It works in fates to select the other players though but not the duty npc.

Is there an easy way to select these characters on the PS4 that I'm missing

    many thanks

I made a macro for my ranged classes---it's particularly useful for healing non-party members (NPCs or other players in FATES):

    /target <tt>

So I put that on my crossbar and then if I target an enemy, I can fire off the macro and now my target is set to the enemy's target---which is the NPC I wanted to heal.

You need to go into the target section of character config, and change what you can target with your weapon drawn.

Thank you both. I'll try the macro, as I mentioned in my first post I'd already played around with weapon drawn settings and it didn't help at all. I even unchecked enemies and aggroed enemies from the list and it still defaulted to enemies and wouldn't cycle to the npc, though it would cycle to players in fates. But the macro sounds like a great idea thank you

In character settings / filters, if you enable both the section for targeting based on whether your weapon is drawn or not and also the section for targeting based on the L1+triangle, L1+circle, etc., those two settings can interfere with each other. (Well, at least a few months ago on PS3 they did.) What I've found works best is to disable the top section about targeting based on the drawn/sheathed status of your weapon, and enable the bottom section about targeting based on the four filters you set up.

So then, if you use L1+triangle as your healing setup to target players and NPCs, and (for example) L1+square to target enemies, each time you press one of those L1 combos, it will change your targeting filter. (If you choose combinations they have names for, like "Friends", "Enemies" or "All", you can also see your current filter name displayed just above your HP/TP/MP bar at the bottom of the screen.) Then, once you use the L1+triangle to switch to "Friends" targeting, the left and right directional buttons will cycle through players and NPCs instead of through enemies. It will continue to do so until you press another of the L1 combos to choose a different targeting filter.

If you've tried that and it didn't work, my guess is that it's the weapon drawn targeting that's overriding your selected filter. (That's why, as mentioned, you should disable that part if you want to use the L1 combo filters.)

Ah thank you I'll try disabling that and see if it works. I had tried setting everything similar to how you suggested so I'm guessing that's the problem. I'm also finding that the macro suggested above works well for targets of enemies.
