    Sorry for potentially breaking your open world pvp bubble but I am 90% sure frontlines won't be open world(unless it'll have various game types and they decide to add open world too, even then..).

    Here's why:

    1. If it was to be open world free pvp, it would be very hard to impose class restrictions and in case you haven't noticed pvp balance in this game(the frail balance that has at the moment) is based on party play with set roles, they even said during the E3 live letter that there was no balance for dueling(they said it would be no fun or something, basically the same thing) and that they'd add it only as a way for people to test their abilities(damage rather) on their friends.
    2. The game would go berserk, especially on PS3 with no limits on player numbers(aka open world) PvP, lag and specially invisible players within the mobs of pvpers would screw it all up.
    3. And probably most important here is something you might've missed within the last patch note(2.28):
    "Players can no longer change Grand Company allegiance while queuing for a duty.* This adjustment is in preparation for the new Frontline system scheduled to be implemented in patch 2.3."
    - Now why would they add restrictions to being able to change GC while in queuing for duty in preparation for frontline system, if the frontline themselves weren't to be instanced?
    PS: This is not a "you're wrong" post, just pointing out the unlikeliness of it being open world, and i could always be wrong. We'll probably know more today with part 2 of 2.3 live letter.

    [QUOTE=Epistane;2176933]snip[i/QUOTE]

    One fight won\\'t win the war but to most players, one fight will be more than enough to determine whether or not they will care enough to keep trying it.
    Remember the idc about pvp cuz it\\'s boring, mind numbing grind, pointless, no skill required etc threads?
    1st inpressions are important because to most ppl, pvp holds no merit to their progression in the game. I\\'m only saying this cuz frontlines will require double possibly tripple the amount of ppl.
    It\\'s never really about winning a war, it\\'s more like a never ending war of attrition.
    Expect frontlines to die fast if there is no gear cap/ qeues, but then again it'll also die as fast if there is.

    I picture it working almost exactly the same as Cyrodiil in ESO (which was the only good thing in ESO).

    You still queue up to enter (ESO had several "Campaigns" you could create to enter Cyrodiil), but it has none of the restrictions instances have. You queue solo, it doesn't put you in a party, you just end up at your Grand Companies camp, once you're there you can stay for however long you like and form parties with other players in your Grand Company. If the "instance" gets full, you can just enter another campaign.

    So our Frontlines page would be where we queue to enter by selecting various campaign types, and we'd be able to see exactly how well our Grand Company is doing in those campaigns as well.

    I guess that is still technically an instance, but it's a persistent one, rather than; enter, fight, win/lose, leave. It would work well with what we know of Carteneau, too. That place is huge, and it could certainly fit several campaigns, what we've seen already points to a persistent instance.

    Also, unless they're changing something quite drastically in how pvp works(wouldn't be bad at all if they did though) expect forced group setups because, as it stands now, if there aren't restrictions in place it'll be a gigantic mess.

    Furthermore it isn't really open world if it is a non persistent kind of zone and i really hope it won't be, otherwise it'll be a mess where one faction can just outnumber the other which would mean gc restrictions among other crap.. god please no...
    I really really hope that's not what they're doing, sounds fun and all but i just see crap in that path.
    *Edit*
    Anyway we'll probably know a lot more in a few hours so just got to wait and see.

    Easiest way for this i can see (and to make it so the healers get something) is if its an objective game mode, much like the base nodes in gw2.

    If it's based on kills there is a fair chance the healers are left out, currently our time is spent stoneskin spamming or kiting (although maybe just an assist bonus for being within a certain range of your team when the kill happens might work)

    I would love an open world pvp zone but i don't know if it's possible due to PS3 limits.
    I still hope since Yoshi is a fan of DOAC RvR.

    And there is a thing in the E3 interview too :

    4:11 - Q3 - Will we see more of the 1.0 story or areas in 2.0 as we move on? - 2.3 will be opening up new areas, including for frontlines, including a new area of Cartaneau plains, so you'll be able to see how the years have affected those areas. As for Coerthas, stay tuned~ ('soon' with a big smiley on Fernehalwes/Yoshi P's faces)

    New area for frontline ? It's maybe me but the way it was describe sound more like an open world than an instanced 8v8v8 zone.

    "New area" means a new area, nothing more nothing less

    The Wolves pit was a new area when pvp was added, so you can't just assume its open world based on what yoshi has said so far (hoping for more info tonight though)

    Other queries awaiting answers aside, I wonder;

    How will they determine which side you're on?

    I mean, obviously it's Maelstrom v Twin Adder v Immortal Flames, but doesn't that royally suck if your friends are in a different Grand Company? If your friends haven't PvP'd yet, it's fine, but if you have any progress in PvP rank you're certainly not going to want to reset it...

    I'd hope they primarily base it off your Free Companies Standing with the Grand Companies, but that seems unlikely given how the PvP Profile is set out... Tying it to Free Companies would also make sense (assuming its a persistent zone rather than the same as Wolves Den) with regards to the future Primal Summoning content; your Free Company takes down a Primal, does something (they've never explained what), and gets to Summon said Primal. That would be an absolutely awesome thing to do in Frontlines, in fact it's the only place I can really see it working. Since it's server based the only other content you could unleash Ifrit on would be Treasure Maps? Guess that might change in the future, but it would still be most fun in Frontlines, IMO. Obviously that wouldn't work if Free Company members are splintered across different Grand Companies in Frontlines, though...

    Perhaps they could remove the rank reset on changing Grand Companies, but in my opinion that would be a mistake. Well, only if Frontlines turns out like I imagined, since if it does there would need to be something to stop you just switching to the winning team...

    Looks like Frontlines is just a race for the middle location, instead of there being several. Might be smaller locations spread around, but that's a little disappointing.

    There is a timer too, so I guess it's instanced. Meh.

    Definitely a great addition to PvP regardless. Hopefully whatever this was concept art for (it was Frontlines, but there is no resemblance...) will be grander;

    EDIT: Apparently Morale has no influence in Frontlines, and the iLv is capped at 80... Now I'm disappointed... I see what he meant by "Frontlines will be a good place for players to practice for real PvP", back when he said that I said I feared he meant Wolves Den is "real" PvP. Now I want to break my desk in half... I'm sure it'll be fun, but why the fuck do we have Morale at this point?

    It does appear to only be semi-instanced at least. 24v24v24, but the match can start before all alliances fill, and it will have PvE for a buffer. It should be fun, but I really do not get why Morale is a non-stat in XIVs PvP... They could have handled PvP so much better in that regard...

    Edit2, Said it in the other thread, but Frontlines is shaping up to be the Crystal Tower of PvP; possibly fun, but ultimately meaningless.

    That would be fine if PvP had some actual substance beyond that, but it doesn't. It have Wolves Den, which at this point is almost universally despised.

    This doesn't even make sense with regards to the lore they set up. When I unlocked Wolves Den, I was told it was a training area. I went, "OK, I'll train here for Frontlines", instead Frontlines is the training area for Wolves Den? The whole point of the grind is just to enjoy long waits as a r40 on Wolves Den? Why couldn't they have just given the hardcore PvPers Frontlines and boosted Wolves Den so progression in it isn't absolute trash?

    I'd hold out for there to be an uncapped Frontlines, but I don't want to be disappointed even more today. I get the feeling they saw PvP wasn't doing well, so decided to give Frontlines to the masses, since it is a pretty big attraction and not many people would even be able to participate if it was for the higher ranks, but that's a mistake. They should have fixed Wolves Den months ago.

    Hilarious that they think anyone is ever going to touch Wolves Den now, they might as well just delete it, along with Morale.

    Absolutely agree with your, Morale is non-existent.. there is no point to pvp in any regard if the grind is futile. I'm highly disappointed in their decision; just made an entire pvp community that sort of exists very upset.. while catering to the ilvl 55 casuals who bot in pvp. HERE it comes mass bot farm inc.

    Best of luck to you all who will enjoy yourself.
