    Title Rewards for REALLY Hard Encounters

    The game developers of FFXIV have always been very careful about balancing the difficulty of a fight with the people going up against it. They don't want to make the fight so hard that no one can beat it, but they do want to make fights challenging enough where it takes a lot of time, energy, and gear upgrades to easily win (for the average player of course). There is always a balance between fight difficulty and the capability of those facing it. Until now...

    This was recently posted as part of a response to people asking if more random elements would be added to difficult fights: Also, we haven’t announced this yet, but we’re thinking to try something else new in patch 2.3. We’re considering preparing a ridiculously high difficulty encounter where the reward would only be a title. This would be at a level that the development team might not even be able to beat, and we’re interested to see what kind of players will rise to the challenge. We’re preparing “Something-Something Extreme,” but it may not be ready in time. The rewards will be the same that you would normally receive, except for the special title.     I am incredibly intrigued and excited by this idea. Adding a fight that is ridiculously hard would give people 'something to do' who have already conquered all the other content there is to conquer (perhaps we would see less posts on the forums from people who literally log in to do coil every week and then log out?). Plus, players who do not have the time or care to conquer this encounter will NOT be at a disadvantage because this fight will not drop any sort of gear. All you will get is a title for 'bragging' rights.

    I believe this is a GOOD direction, and I fully support it. I would love to beat my head against this new encounter for hours and hours. How does the rest of the community feel about it? I assume there will be some mixed responses. In the future, I wonder if SE will consider adding purely aesthetic gear for encounters like this (that can be glamoured -- such as gear that mimics a primal's element), although that might be swinging the pendulum too far in the other direction. I don't want people to feel left out, and any drops could cause some turmoil among the community because the fight would be literally designed to ONLY be beaten by a very small percentage of players. A title, though, would be okay in my opinion... especially with the new upcoming feature to have a title next to your name.

    No, in all honestly, I love the idea of having an extremely tough fight in game! It gives people that much more to work toward. Better gear and such may not be able to fix this fight if people run into trouble. And, it may not be beatable in just a few wipes. Specific strategies with specific classes for certain duties that they MUST perform, else the fight is done.

    Thank you for bringing attention to this, because I had yet to hear. Sounds very exciting, and can't wait to see it!!

    I just saw it myself. It wasn't in the original Q/A posted alongside the actual live letter... it was included in the summary posted yesterday/today, though.

    As far as WHAT he fight will be... I'm hoping Ultima Extreme. I have no factual evidence to support this, but I love the music for that fight and I feel like even Ultima (hard) was just too easy considering the role it had in the main storyline. In the interest of saving time, they might make it a more recent fight with extra elements included. Perhaps more adds, or even more things to dodge. Perhaps mechanics that only targeted certain people will now target more or different targets. Only time will tell, but I really do look forward to whatever they cook up.

    As for this thread... I hope the devs see that the community DOES support something like this, and I hope they work to get it done by 2.3!

    If I can attempt it even without doing crap stuff like T9 (not that T9 is crap, but being forced through it while I can't play and certainly can't find a static even for T6 learning is crap), I'm all for it.

    20mins hard enrage timer
    - Twintania having 200% of her original HP

    Phase 1
    - Instead of 3x Scourge of Meracydia, you have 3x Ghost of Meracydia
    - Liquid hell does more damage and standing on it will cause burn damage like DoT
    - Plummet instead of being frontal cone AoE, it will be circular AoE similiar to Nael's Dalamud Dive
    - Increased Death Sentence damage similar to Ravensbeak

    Phase 2
    - Infirmity will force a tank swap. It casts a 30s debuff on the tank and if the tank with the debuff takes another Death Sentence, it's really death: instant KO.
    - Fireball will deal the same amount of damage but generates a 30s burn debuff that ticks for minor DoT damage. However the trick is the player with the Fireball debuff cannot take another Fireball, or result in instant KO.
    - Conflag will have 200% of its original HP. If the trapped player is not being released by the time conflag timer is up, the trapped player will die, and on top of it, Twintania will receive heal equivalent to the total conflag HP.

    Phase 3
    - 2 sets of divebombs as usual, however instead of 45s in between, it will be 90s
    - Instead of Asceplius and 4x Hygeia, it shall be Caduceus! It will be in its split from - which means 2 of them, each having 50% of the Caduceus's full HP from Turn 1.
    - As you can recall they must not get close to each other so you have to split them up and DPS and dodge Divebombs separately. If they get close, it will combine as usual and will have an instant 8 stacks buff. The split Caduceus will start with 0 stack and gain 1 stack every 20s
    - Towards the end of Phase 3, if Caduceus are still alive, they will auto move to the center of the map where Twintania will reappear and be absorbed by Twintania - whatever HP remaining of Caduceus will be absorbed as heal.
    - Furthermore, each Caduceus being absorbed will boost Twintania's Aetheric Profusion by 10%

    Phase 4
    - Dreadknights will have 150% of her original HP and returns 15% melee damage to the dealer
    - The stunned player will be subjected to a DoT
    - Twister will be back the the punishing version before nerf

    Phase 5
    - Hatch will deal the same damage but will cause a 1m debuff. Each stack of debuff will cause the next Hatch to deal 25% more damage to the player with the debuff.
    - 5x Liquid Hell as usual.

    I'm kind of hoping titan extreme. I feel like I'm doing zen meditation whenever I do titan nowadays, it would be awesome.
