End Game

Hi. I'm quickly pulling to level 50 and enjoying playing PLD. Long-term WoW endgame MT so it's been a pretty easy transition.

I just want to know where I start when I hit level cap. Where I need to be starting to pump up my gear level. I see a lot of talk about coil and tier8/9 but can't really find a definite post which sets out a 'route' to take. Be interested to hear thoughts/suggestions/advice of those who've done it.

You wanna start running dungeons for mythology tomes and soldiery tomes. Then, one you get geared to i70~ or better. Then start running coils 1,2,4 and eventually 5. Coil will get you i90 gear, the same as myth tomes, and soldiery will get you i100 gear. You also are going to want to get your relic weapon. As for stats, I don't main Pld, but I do have it i90. And personally I try to focus parry and determination while keeping my Accuracy high enough for coils. You need about 482 accuracy for t5, and about 460 as a minimum for t1. Once you reach a comfortable amount of accuracy, just get gear with more parry and det. However, vitality and strength should be your primary focus.

Your first objective is going to be to get above 4k hp so that you can tank the starter dungeons without much trouble. So upon hitting 50:
1. Spec full VIT if you haven't already
2. Hit up AH and buy HQ Amber accessories for all slots. If they aren't there or seem pricey shout around for a goldsmith to make you some.
3. Buy an HQ Aeolian Scimitar if you can afford it. You will eventually turn this in for your Relic quest, and it's a very nice starter weapon for 50. This may have gone up in price due to less people farming WP dungeon where the component drops.

These three plus your Gallant armor should put you at around 4k hp, which is enough to be comfortable in the starter dungeons (WP/AK).

You'll want to finish your story quest next, then go ahead and unlock all the dungeons you can. Look up the dungeons online to see where the quests are, they're all talk to this guy then talk to another guy => unlocked.

At this point you're good to go for WP/AK(i60 armor) and HM Ifrit and Garuda(i60/i70 Weapon upgrades).

Myth/Soldiery tokens:
You'll receive these tokens while doing dungeon runs.
Myth buys i90 armor
Soldiery is capped at 450 per week and buys i100 armor(Best available without doing the newest raid Binding Coil 2)

Use your Myth to replace your weakest slot as you're running the dungeons, don't worry about bis on them as the most important thing right now is getting your item level and hp pool up.

Once you're about 5k hp, you should be good to go to start running HM CM and HM Haukke's Manor which will drop i70 armor/accessories to help fill out slots. You're also good to go to queue up for the 24 man raid Crystal Tower which can drop i80 armor. You might be able to do these sooner, I'm not sure as I was over that in gear when they were released so this is just an estimate.

You're also about right in HP to tank HM Titan.

At this point you should start researching ACC(Hit) caps for Binding Coil 1 as you're about ready to start jumping into groups for that. The turns there drop i90 gear, a lot of which was BiS before the last patch opened the new raid content.

If you have people that can carry you through the boss fights, it might not be a bad idea to do this earlier rather than later. If you're planning on tanking, then you'll want to have at least 5k hp for HM Titan, however all of it is laughable if you pull in over geared folks.

I also want to reiterate that I may be overly cautious in my recommendations on when to move up to newer content. There's no harm in trying it a bit earlier than I suggest, especially if you get in with an FC that doesn't mind helping you out.

most people seem to hit 50 around the time they get to castrum the first 8man dungeon, which is only near the end of the 2.0 story, 2.1 and 2.2 have extended on that so you'll still have a clear path to take (the quests with the unique graphic)

and simply run the dungeons that give myth tomes and later on soldiery tomes for a while and you'll gear up for coil in no time

coil is actually part of the story, unlike some other games end-game content, you basically can't go the wrong way

The paladin tanking compendium in this forum already suggested is also very interesting.

I would do Aurum Vale, become a Second Lieutenant and obtain the ilvl 55 GC weapon if you don't have anything better. Probably there will be higher ranks in the future so being a Second Lieutenant is good anyway. There are ilvl 70 weapons at the market boards, but probably you won't have gil enough, since they are expensive.

The daily roulettes are very useful for tomes. At first, until you are more confident or geared, you can do the Main Story and Low level roulettes (100 myth and 60 myth tomes). Of the high level dungeons WP is the easiest. Once you are more confident or/and geared you can do the High Level roulette. The minimum ilvl requirements are quite low, if you go with the minimum you might have difficulties.

I would start the relic quest soon, taking it easy while you do roulettes and gear up. When you arrive to Titan HM you'll probably have enough gear.

This is a good moment to obtain the cross-class abilites if you don't have them, there are threads in this forum about it.

CT is good for tomes and loot, and not difficult, only it's sometimes chaos if the group is not coordinated or does not communicate well. I would do it as soon as available.

Start earning soldiery tomes when you can. Spend the soldiery and myth tomes depending on what you need more, what drops you have, etc. The HQ Wolf accesories are ilvl 55 and have good stats until you get something better, if they are not too expensive.

Once you are geared and exp enough try to obtain your 450 soldiery tomes a week while you do other things, the Expert Roulette is very good for this. The myth tomes will accumulate, but you will need a lot for your gear, the relic oil and Zenith upgrade, and later the Animus upgrade.

After you have the relic and are better geared, next steps are Coil, the Extreme Primals and finally the Second Coil.

The Atma and Animus upgrade will take a lot of time and you can do them while you advance in other content, once you have the Zenith weapon.

When you mention 'soldiery tomes', do you mean the Allagan Tombstones of Philosophy or am i missing something?

I've already started using the cross-class abilities too and, from my WoW history, have a brilliant grasp of the stats/class/etc. I've been levelling up my GC as quick as possible too, should be Storm Sergeant Grade II tonight. With regards to money, no issue. I'm pretty good on the markets so at level 41 i already have almost 200k so i'm happy to part with gil for gear if needs be.

EDIT: Done more research and found the Soldiery tokens - the 'Rowena tomestones' threw me off the scent! I'll buy an Aeolian Scimitar and start gathering the Gallant Armour at level 45 so i should be ready to go to WP/AK pretty much when i ding level 50. I'll keep you all updated on my success

I'm going to set about buying an Aeolian Scimitar tonight too, so I've got it there and ready. Like I said, I have the money for it so might as well try get it ready.

What's the "relic quest" you mentioned?

Philosophy tomes are no longer used since patch 2.2. If you have any from dungeon running prior to that, you can convert them to Myth stones in Mhor Dhona, not sure of the npc off the top of my head.

Myth is the new philosophy in the sense that you can obtain as many as you want per week, but only hold 2000 at a time.
Soldiery is the new myth in the sense that you can only obtain up to 450 a week, holding 2000.

Remember to hold on to your scimitar after you replace it to use in the relic quest, and note that if you do start the relic quest once you turn it in melded you will be without a weapon until the end of the quest so you'll need to make sure you have a replacement/upgrade first. GC weapon or Darklight are good alternatives, as are the weapons from Ifriit HM and Garuda HM.

Rewards an i80 sword and shield that can be upgraded to i90. With the most recent patch (2.2) it can be upgraded to i100, however the quest to take it from i90 -> i100 is ALOT of grinding.

Note that on the relic quest, the oil that used to be purchasable with Philo tomes is now purchasable at your Grand Company with GC seals.

The relic quest is named "A relic reborn". Gerolt, an NPC in North Shroud (30,20), Hyrstmill, gives the quest.

It is a long quest that ends in you obtaining the Curtana (the relic weapon for the PLD.) You have to defeat enemies, do dungeons, trials, etc.

Later the Curtana can be upgraded to Curtana Zenith, and later on to Curtana Atma and Animus, and in the future more upgrades are expected. So it is worth to do the long quest and longer upgrades.
