PS4 - can't switch to Japanese input

Steps:
1. Set the PS4 system language to Japanese
2. Launch Final Fantasy XIV, set the client language to English, login.
3. Type some text in English in the chat window, it works.
4. Press the ~ (or Alt ~ or Control ~) to try to switch to Japanese input
5. Type some text in romanji, it doesn't get converted to hiragana.

In Final Fantasy XIV on the PS3, the text input would switch to Japanese and when I typed romanji it would get converted to hiragana, e.g. if I typed nihongo, it would appear as にほんご and then if I typed space, it would get converted to kanji:日本語

I use the same keyboard on the PS3 and on the PS4. Both console were bought in Canada and are the NA model. I also tried with another keyboard from another brand (Apple USB keyboard) and had the same problem.

This problem might be related: I also noticed that in Final Fantasy XIV I can't seem to input the ~ character with my keyboard, it doesn't display it (nor ` which is on the same key). It works fine in the PS4 web brother though.

I play on a server in the Japanese data center, so this is a very big problem for me.

I have this same problem, only I have a Japanese PS4, a Japanese keyboard (Logicool G510) but I know of a way to switch to Japanese, except it is so complicated!!!
by the time I finish doing it, type in お疲れ様, everyone has left the dungeon and I missed my chance to get loot and to commend anyone for my challenge log!!!

how to type in Japanese:
hit ENTER on the keyboard,
pick up the PS4 gamepad,
hit the triangle button TWICE,
hit Alt+半角／全角key,
type the japanese,
hit ENTER twice!!!

Is there an easier way? I have been trying to hit every key but nothing lets me type without that long process!!! so i have to make macros to type in dungeons...

oops... i just read up on the PS4, all I had to do was go into SYSTEM, input devices, external keyboard, change to japanese keyboard and set it to romaji so i can start with english.... my problem was too simple!

You can always use autotranslate phrases or prepare the most common greetings / "goodbies" in the macros.

Well - that's quite unlikely as there is 300 seconds counter on loot ...

Patch 2.28 broke English-Russian switching as well yet again. At least ~ worked before, nothing works now.
Can we get Alt+Shift functionality back again and for future updates?...

As said above. Please dont break this function and fix it, cant switch input language anymore after 2.28. This makes gaming very uncomfortable.

Exactly, I wonder if they fix this problem after the maintenance. It's really a problem if you are playing on the JP server!!!

Tech support has nothing to do with it.
Keyboard layout cant be switched from English, even though it was working fine with 2.2 and still working, albeit with unconvenient ~ instead of Alt+Shift with 2.25. Since 2.28 its stuck with english no matter what your keyboard type is, just like on PS3.
It works fine on PC, and its a major issue. Certainly more important than http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...ze-set-for-tab that got accepted without questions.
