I like this feature, especially for my weekend gaming, where I frequently afk to go do housework or other fabulous exciting things, and just lile being able to nosy through chat logs when I get back
As for wasting power, my pc is on all day anyway for music, so no biggy there.

Then those were added at some point well after launch, because at launch, those commands didnt exist/work. It was frustrating because I kept typing it and then coming back and realziing the flag had never been set.

Thanks for the info that they work..... now that I've broken my habit of using them....

It should be /micon "Change Pose" emote if the patch notes are correct.

Thank you, I didn't know to mention that it was an emote. Will try it next time I'm logged in. Thanks again!

    Edit: It worked! Thanks!

I often go afk at unspoiled nodes, do something else for an hour, and come back to the same unspoiled node. I used to move my character every so often to prevent logout, which was just plain annoying, so I love this feature.

There have also been requests for a feature that will automatically place the away icon next to your character after a set amount of time, and Hiroshi Minagawa has an update about this feature.

We'll be adding a system so that after a certain amount of time (which can be set in the config.) without touching the game, your online status will automatically change to "Away" and once you start to move again it will be removed. It will also be possible to turn this feature off. Even while doing looped emotes, such as the Manderville Dance, your status will be set to “Away” after the time passes.

One aspect we are still looking into is whether to make the return from away condition that you move your character or to make it activate if you operate the game in any way. The latter is simpler to implement, but just touching your mouse would remove the "Away" status, so we would like to make adjustments after trying it out.
As a follow-up to this, in patch 2.28 we will be making adjustments to the “Away” status so that when you do not operate the game for a certain amount of time, your online status will automatically be set to “Away.” You’ll be able to select from four different time settings (5 minutes, 10 minutes, 30 minutes, and 60 minutes) or you can also choose not to use this feature. The “Away” status will automatically be removed once you operate the game in some way.

This kind of sounds like we'll be in the same situation with people turning off the auto-afk symbol and going afk for an indefinite amount of time. Am I understanding correctly? Just want to clarify. Thanks.

I'm not sure why people stay logged in anyways. As far as I know you don't even have to re-enter your password or anything, just click on your character. There's no benefits to staying logged in, it just kills your hardware faster. It's not 2.0 where if you log out, you'll never be getting back in.

It seems to be a holdover from something people did in FFXI. Lots of people like to apparently leave their character logged in 24/7, so they don't miss anything and can review what happened in chat/tells whenever they get back. I don't really see the point either.
