A fairer way for loot in coil 2

With the best (or at least the highest ILV gear) only available from coil 2, there needs to be a better and fairer way to obtain it.

Sure, you could be lucky and get your drops, but i'm sure most have felt the pain of RNG at some point, and with the weekly lockout it's possible you could have a long wait for those drops.

So what i would like to see is something like this:

Every turn you complete that you don't win a loot would give you a coil token. You could then save these up and use them to buy the drops that you have not been lucky enough to see or win.
Items from higher coil turns would cost more tokens, and you can only purchase items that drop from turns that you have actually beat at least once.

I know most people don't want to see another token system in the game, but at least this way all your hard work in coil could never be for absolutely nothing, and the pricing of items would have to be correct for it to work.

    Hmm, let's see what happens.

I played an MMO that used to have a setup similiar to what you described. The best-in-slot gear would be acquired by saving enough badges, while the dropped gear had slightly weaker stats, but looked a lot cooler than the ones earned by badges. With glamours coming up in the next patch, a similar system I think would be ideal.

I'd say lets see what happens first too. We haven't even played it yet. Maybe it's doubtful the treasure coffers are more balanced between the two that usually spawn, but who knows?

They did fix it so the coffers were more fair in T1-5. I remember when it was a very high chance on particular drops in turn 1 (mostly drg stuffs).

I'd like some certainty as well but, if they can just make RNG actually random, that might be good enough for me. For a while, the loot tables between the dual coffers were pretty unbalanced.

RNG is going to bad yea I hope drops rates are better and more balanced. Given that you must have 2 tanks 2 healers in the group that gear should drop at a higher rate vs the dps sets. From what I noticed last time dps get geared out super fast while the tanks and healers are left in the dust due to the fact they have to split gear between 2 people. I remember our monk had full ilvl 90 while the tanks had 2 pieces each.

    How it actually is
    Role - Chance to drop
    Tank 1/6
    Healer 1/6
    Caster dps 1/6
    Mnk 1/6
    Drg 1/6
    Brd 1/6

    How adjusted rates should be
    Role - Chance to drop
    Tank 2/9
    Healer 2/9
    Caster dps 2/9
    Mnk 1/9
    Drg 1/9
    Brd 1/9

You have a good point. They could do what you suggest, or maybe even make it so bard, drg and monk use the same gear. Their gear already looks the same usually anyway!

Merging drg and monk gear would fix part of the problem but then the outlier would be bard but they could just set that to drop at a lower rate.

Some sort of 'Coil Token' that you're guaranteed to receive is pretty much a necessity. Ideally, you would receive one token for every turn that you clear, in addition to whatever RNG-based drops you get. After that, you could spend them something like this:

    - 3 tokens would buy a High Allagan accessory or belt.
    - 5 tokens would buy the head/hands/feet pieces.
    - 8 tokens would buy the body or legs pieces.
    - Either 1 token or 2 tokens could be used to upgrade a piece of Soldiery Tomestone equipment from i100 to i110, similar to the way Thavnairian Mist is used to upgrade base Relics to their Zenith counterparts.

If they did it that way, it would:

    A) Maintain the current level of gear variety, in that players would still have at least two options, with two different stat allocations, for max-iLevel equipment in each slot.
    B) Fulfill the goal of giving players 'motivation' to do Coil, and make sure that the highest rewards are only available by participating in the highest content.
    C) Prevent the situation where a player can go to Coil, every week, and walk out completely empty-handed, with absolutely zero progress made, for months on end, with no viable alternatives.
    D) Maintain the current pace at which a diligent, active player can advance, so that splitting your efforts between two or three different classes/roles is viable, instead of requiring players to focus exclusively on one class just to have a chance at being "mostly" geared up enough in that one class to actually advance to the next round of content in 2.4 (or whenever there's another shift upwards).

True, but considering their armor level is the same, they could just add dex to the monk/drg gear. It's not like dex would benefit drg/mnk at all and vice versa with str.

In this coil, the drg/brd/mnk gear look very different. The reason why they haven't made changes yet, I imagine, is due to future classes that will wear similar armor to current classes.

In other words why have the DPS fight over gear drops now when in the near future there will be even more dps for them to fight over gear for. Sure it sucks in the short term, but in the long term it is best to differentiate between the classes now. So adjusting rate of gear dropping is probably in the best interest.

If whatever you're shooting doesn't die after you pump 8, 32 caliber, slugs into it, it's probably a dragon.
