    Switching audio playback devices

This thread from the 1.0 forums was asking for FFXIV to be able to switch between audio playback devices. Can someone please forward this to the development team?

FFXI automatically switched to the new default playback device if you changed it in Windows.

Guild Wars 2 has a switch built into the game for switching between devices.

I'd just like to be able to switch audio devices without completely exiting the game and relaunching it.

There was a developer response to this a long time ago stating the reason you have to close down your client is because FFXIV uses the XAudio(2?) codec, and for whatever reason that doesn't support changing audio devices while the game is running. Perhaps GW2 uses a different audio playback solution?

I wouldn't mind being able to change my audio between devices. Heck you can't even switch between headphone to speaker settings without completely losing audio in the game which is completely ridiculous.

Yeah it is a little annoying.

If I am using my headset for chat and forget to unplug it the next time I play the audio comes out the headset causing me to have to restart the game so its out the speakers.

Some games allow you to, WOW is another, but others like LOTRO (IIRC) don't so I guess it does depend on the core audio engine the game uses.

For TS/Vent I use a separate audio device for the voice output (a second speaker set) so I never have this problem.

    Greetings,

We’re happy to say that there has been some progress on this; however, at the moment we are only able to share that which has already been said.

Currently we are working with Microsoft and looking into countermeasures for this issue, but we’ve yet to find a method that would address all audio playback environments and operating systems. As we continue to look into this, we may ask for your help and would appreciate your cooperation.

Once there are further developments on this issue I’ll be sure to let you all know.
