I am in favor of aetheryte-only teleporting if and only if other means of transportation are introduced first. Here's how it should be:
    • Other means of transportation exist.
      • Airships provide city to city transportation.
      • Chocobos:
        • Extremely fast; optional: auto-pilot.
        • Rentals available at every city and aetheryte camp.
        • Optional: Players have the option of raising a chocobo to summon via chocobo whistle.
    • Anima system changes:
      • Implement Aetheryte teleportation system: City <--> Camp <--> Gate, not Anywhere --> Any Camp
      • Teleport is now an Aetheryte option, not a menu option.
      • Return has 10-minute timer and lets player choose either their homepoint or the nearest Aetheryte they've been attuned to.
      • Anima removed.
Currently, there are two ways to play the game: either you have anima and stuff like airships and chocobos are useless, or you do not have anima and the game sucks so hard. That is too binary. Airships and chocobos are going to happen, so if we're going to have a teleport system at all it needs to be compatible with them and not suck.

(Seriously: "Caerith" was a forbidden name when I signed up on the forums.)

Eorzea should be a world, not a lobby.

Hopefully once they add birds and ships they will just get rid of the anima system completely and have mage teleports and OP warps that u pay gil to npc.

Pretty much my thoughts, more detailed and localized, exactly. SE, implement this!

Anyway. If anima is the direction they're going in, they might as well stop designing maps and start designing dungeons, no one is ever going to walk around after a while. Waste of resources, even if it is copy and paste.
This is the most ridiculous argument. It is like you are living on a planet where no one ever runs out of anima. People run all the time because anima simply doesn't regenerate fast enough to allow anyone who plays more than once a month to use it as much as they want. I mean seriously.

I played the game for the first time in four months yesterday, and in order to make tree toad legs (because I wanted to, for fun) I had to teleport all over the damn world to get ingredients from each city. In short - after just one night of tooling around I was down from 100 to like 65 anima.

Anyone who plays this game regularly already runs all over the copy-pasted Eorzea all the frigging time.

Currently, free warping removes any incentive to run anywhere.
With liable reasons being mining, fishing, logging or going to a new aetheryte.

During those expeditions, have you ever encountered other activities?
Such as spots for mob grinding? Caves to explore? When variety is added you could ponder on so much more.

Imagine randomly spawned chests or wandering arbitrary NPC's with a rare quest. Adventure to be had from the smallest things.

Running to an aetheryte increase our chance to experience such a said event.
Insta-teleporting reduces it completely. You miss out.
Since there is no inbetween now, what incentive do the devs even have to create a lucrative activity for taking a walk?

Kukurumei, you hit home with that line, I agree with you completely.

At any rate, I don't want to avoid my initial point.
As awkward as it sounds, when it takes time and or
labor to achieve something, in the end it becomes more worthwhile.
Even if it's a small 5 minute walk to a node.
It's a subtle satisfying feeling, that won't feel like some sort of chore after accomplished.

I'm sure I'm speaking for everyone when I say I would like every aspect of this game
    to be similar.

Sorel and Caerith, your said suggestions were ingenious.
They were inspiring ideas that I would like to append to the beginning. I hope you don't mind.

I have a better idea. How about they revert to FF11 style of teleporting and allow only the Aetherytes teleport you back to town when arrived at the camp site. Add in a gil sink for the camps teleportation usage. The farther the camp from town the more expensive it gets.

This gives chocobos airships boats and other means of future transportation a purpose.

Or add region teleporters like Teleport-Dem in FFXI and we can continue our journy on a chocobo and gives theses abilities to conjurors or these would be abilities unlocked/quested as their unlocked job class.

I got an EVEN BETTER Idea lol

remove all teleportation by crystals and main menu, and let the White Mages (when they come in FFXIV) teleport us like in FFXI and the recast times will vary depending on the distance and amount of people porting. porting could be a high level spell.. that way people will have somthing to strive for.

They might just, as YoshiP mentions it wants to get closer back to "everquest" style for FF14.

Let's try to put it in 2 categories, one is "free roaming" the other is "quest hub". Right now is heavily a "quest hub". i.e. Mission based. Everquest style is an adventure style, where it's more a free roaming type.
