Backup your character data and uninstall ver 1.x~ if you want to load your character data for benchmark software.

コレで完全に終わりなら現行ＦＦ１４クライアントはＰＣから消してもいいのですか？
If this is the final, can we uninstall the current FF14 client from our PC?

すでにコメントを引用してくださってますが、新生版のクライアントは全く別ものですので、現行版のクライアントをアンインストールしても大丈夫です。
ただ、正式サービス開始前に公開される予定の「キャラクタークリエイション可能なベンチマークソフト」で現行版のキャラクターデータを読み込みたい方は、デフォルト設定で「マイドキュメント」→「My Games」フォルダ内の「FINAL FANTASY XIV」フォルダに格納されているキャラクターの外見データを残しておく必要があります。
Some have already commented but the client for ARR is completely different so it's safe to uninstall the current version client. However, before the official service start we will be releasing a benchmark software which allows character creation which can import ver 1.x character data. So if you would like to import your data, please remember to keep the character data stored in FFXIV folder under My Documents > My Games > FINAL FANTASY XIV (default)

Some asked who gets in from beta test phase 1

すでにフォローしてくださっている方もいらっしゃいますが、以下の2つに当てはまる方がβフェーズ1から参加できます。

1. FFXIVレガシー権利をお持ちの方
2. 参加応募サイトからテスターに当選された方

FFXIVサービスアカウントをお持ちの方については、βフェーズ3から必ず参加できます。
もちろん、当選すればβフェーズ1またはβフェーズ2から参加できますので、2013年1月上旬公開予定の新生FFXIV βテスター応募サイトから奮ってご応募いただければ幸いです。
Some people already followed up on the information but for phase 1 of beta test. If you fit in one of the two below you will be able to participate.

1. Those with FFXIV Legacy status
2. Those that were selected from the registration site

For those with FFXIV service accounts, you will definitely be able to participate from beta phase 3.
Of course, if you get selected at phase 1 or phase 2, you can participate from then. So would appreciate if you could please register once the ARR beta tester application is released at early time January, 2013.

Rein is right on the part of Localization. This is the common misconception people make with bilingual people. Yes, Rein can speak and understand both, but its not enough to be on a professional level. Just like you wouldn't hire a person who spoke English off the street to teach it. You need the formal training to manipulate and flavor your words. This kind of training takes awhile to do and is frequently done at the university levels.

I know where he is coming from though, with juggling both languages xD. Though I don't speak Japanese, I share the same experiences through being raised with Spanish. I can easily do translations, but then I run into the same thing Rein does; perfecting the English part so that it sounds natural. Things like thought patterns and sentence structure get in the way, and to us, it sounds perfectly normal for the most part >.>

I lived in Germany between the ages of 12-15, so my shortcoming is from the other angle. My use of English is rather good (if I may say so myself) but since my skills in German were developed only to the level of a high school student, there is a tendancy for some things to go over my head. I actually play with google translate to find possible meanings for individual words from time to time in order to figure out some of the trickier phrases.
Sadly, this is not the language combination that many people are looking for.

Living in a different country as a child was something I'm very grateful for, as it gave me a perspective on life not many people get to have. Fortunately it was just a single 3-year instance, so I didn't suffer continuous upheaval.
Rein, it is good of you to consider your children, but if the right sort of opportunity presents itself, do not be afraid to consider taking it. If you talk to your partner and children when the time comes, their opinions could easily surprise you. This is what happened to my father.

Being immersed in another culture certainly changes your outlook on life, doesn't it? For me, I never really lived *outside* the US per-say, but I grew up on a town on the US-Mexico border, so I was exposed to both cultures pretty much since Day 1. You start to appreciate the culture and experiences you have here moreso than others who've never stepped outside of it.

This is the other major aspect to translation/localization: the ability to bring the translated text into a completely different culture than your own, and make it seamless, as if it never existed in another language.
