Why did square enix do this to bard?

So bard is a dps class right? Correct me if i'm wrong but it's main role is damamge then why does the class have a heal lb, if it has a healing lb either give us healing songs or change it to a dmg lb.

And I noticed the first month the game came out. So i'm just saying something now cause i'm bored.

Personally it doesn't bother me. If Bard has a damaging LB, what shall it be? Physical LB we already have the melees doing it, and given that PUGs are only bringing in one melee just for the LB for some of the instances, if Bard does "Final Heaven" then I think melee will be even out of job.

Ranged LB? You already have BLM/SMN doing it.

As a Bard my asset is 100% mobility, 100% uptime. Rather than finding the right time to cast LB due to long cast time and animation lock, I'd rather run around and continue my pewpewpew

Anyways BRD's healing LB isn't that bad. Used it a few times in Ultima HM fights during 2.1 release and it does save the day.

BRD LB is as such due to balancing. You cannot give BRD more utility without further nerfing them.

Imagine, BRD that can regen mana, TP, increase 20% damage, run while dps-ing, can silence, can AOE with single/AOE DPS LB. This sentence have nerf written all over em.

I have bard and I enjoy having healing lb .
Ive saved the day in more than one encounter where healers died.

Great mobility, good damage, great support ( overpowered songs) and the chance to raise all dead and heal everyone to full. A bit overpowered tbh .

They might add a range class LB once musketeer is up. keep your hopes up

In 1.0 it would have made sense since bards could access to WHM spells.
But I guess the resurrection/cure went to Arcanist (SMR/SCH) so they decided to make bard more DPS... but i think this was not fully though-through

It still make sense to me. Yes BRD is a DPS class but no matter how you see it, it's kinda like a part time support too due to the massive amount of utility it carries.

Having a BRD with healing/ressing LB is like having a SMN in your team for the extra battle rez.

Looks like the general consensus is:
Bard's are too good to have any other LB (between the ones we have now to choose from).

As it was said before, a Bard with a melee class LB would completely wipe DRG/MNK from virtually everything. If it had Caster LB, SUM would also probably be ran off, leaving your BLMs and BRDs. BLM only because it has better AoE capability than BRD. BRD has like grade B solo and AoE DPS, has Silence, and provides TP/Magic Resistance Reduction/ MP with only a 20% decrease in damage. So.... yep! Healing LB for ya.

Funny thing is Bards are almost always meant to be support classes.
