Terrible Payment System

I think I'll start this thread on a positive note.

There have been many improvements/adjustments/additions to the game since I played during the public beta. Enough so that I felt it finally warranted my purchase, and I an anxiously awaiting the mail lady today!

I have not kept up on the payment side of things; has SE announced changes to its terrible, terrible, terrible, terrible payment policy? The one where you could either

A) be the only MMO player in the world that pays a fee to pay be credit card for an online game, or
B) enroll in an auto-renewing account with a shady London based company, with the only way to STOP them from withdrawing your money is to send a written letter to their London office?

I'm not sure if I mentioned, but that's a TERRIBLE payment system. I bought the game to see the progress its made, but make no mistake: if that type of payment system persists after the game is no longer free to play, then I'll not be continuing my account at that point.

And it's possible SE already announced the retraction of their terrible, terrible, terrible, terrible payment policy, and I missed it. I could be up in arms over nothing.

But to me, even "fixing" the problem by waiving the credit card fee and returning to FFXI's recurring monthly fee, complete with "late" charges is not enough. Give me a subscription option. I don't owe you additional money because you don't shut off accounts until several days after a payment doesn't go through for whatever reason. I and only I decide when and what amount is withdrawn from my accounts.

I've had no issues with ClickAndBuy and found it extremely easy, but I don't wear tin foil hats.

Or.. just pay for an online service via credit card like I can for any other service, without a processing fee?

UltimatePay worked out alright actually when I went to add crysta for the earthquake fund. You can pay using your card through that.

ClickAndBuy on the other hand... complete trash. It didn't even accept my home address when I tried registering for it and it took them over a month to respond to my email. Not a good experience I must say.

Then SE would have to pay that processing fee, and they're cheap.

I thought about making a thread about this. Like you, I also hate the payment options for FFXIV. I will be extremely reluctant to choose an option when it comes down to it.

Nor should you have to. You have a perfectly acceptable payment method: a credit card. Everyone else takes them. It's an expected business expense. If a convenience store can accept a $1 charge without charging a processing fee, SE can. In any case, I thought our cardholder agreement with Visa International prohibits usage surcharges.

I can say, I hated ClickandBuy from the first day I've used it (FFXIV subscription). That *** is crap!

It's unfortunate, because you can't use Crysta in Switzerland, so this makes C&B the only option. *** e-finance company...

@OP oh I 100% agree with you... if C&B is my only option I'll leave the game just because of that. I don't like them, don't trust them and don't want them having my CC info...

I am glad that people have said that the UltimatePay Card works with FFXIV though, that will be my only other option if I decide to stay in the game.

I wish a Dev would comment on this topic... because this was brought up two months ago as well and people were upset about it.

Can't even buy Crysta directly from SE...
Have to go through UltimatePay or ClickandBuy.

I don't understand why they can't piggyback on the PlayOnline billing system. This is perhaps the biggest step backwards for SE where FFXIV is concerned.
