    Materia system needs an End Game overhaul!

    Obviously we can all agree that Materia lacking when it come to an End Game where everyone equips raid drops. I have two simple suggestion that could improve Materia use and the crafters that meld them.
    • Add Materia slots to all End Game gear, both crafted and dropped.
    • Add Job specific Materia that players use to augment their characters.

    I'm not sure I'd like to see dungeon drops get materia slots.

    Rather, I'd like to see devs deliver on their promise. Originally, crafted gear (melded) should be the bridge between tiers, and you should not even be able to skip crafted gear. For example, one should not have been able to just go in Binding Coils with full DL and clear the place. Overmelded iLv70s should have been significantly better than DL, and should have been what was required to down bosses in BC.

    Now with iLv 80 dropping from Crystal Tower, crafted gear is getting the sack again. Not to mention DL was perfectly fine for BC. So there's now absolutely no point in buying crafted gear unless you're really in a rush to enter BC.

    Materia is useless because crafted gear is useless. The source of the problem isn't that dungeon drops don't take materia; it is that crafted gear isn't needed. Deliver that promise of making crafted gear a need, and materia will naturally have a market.

    Overmelded crafted ilvl70 crafted materials are still better than some of those ilvl 80 though But i totally aggro with Zfz ^^

    After some research, I have seen that HQ melded crafted gear is better than all gear up until BC. Anybody saying there is no point to using crafted gear has no idea what they're talking about.

    The problem is that crafted gear is still being sold at astronomical prices. Last I check, the Darksteel Haubergeon I really want was selling for 200k. Really? For 200k, I can just go farm for DL gear.

    This sweeping generalization is blatantly false. There are certain overmelded pieces which will beat out their i80 counterparts, but even when they do it's only because you have a certain mix of yet other pieces of gear to do things like cap accuracy.

    The reason people say there is no reason to use crafted gear say so because all the time, effort, and/or gil invested into getting a piece of gear that will be replaced in a week is -very- pointless. That's why there is no point in using crafted gear. The rare exceptions are overmelded accessories.

    The only real use for overmelded, crafted gear is for jobs you want to take to coil that are second or third or fourth on the equipping list, so you won't have myth to support them until you get the coil/myth mix for BiS.

    Edit: A caveat; To add to the pointlessness, everything you can do in overmelded, crafted gear, you can do in darklight or crystal tower gear for free.

    I think end game gear should have materia slots. Craftinng shouldnt compete against end game gear, it should work with it. Even if all you can meld is secondary stats it would be an improvement

    I would like to see a wider variety of uses for Materia implemented as well. They could be necessary to craft consumables, to give you temporary stat buffs, or to be needed in some manner that caused them to be utilized on a regular basis.

    Cause people to *want* to burn materia and it will have an enduring market.

    Lol, make our souls mendable. Every time you do the job quest you get 1 extra slot. last 3 slots are overmelds ofc. Would allow for some flavour as well.
