Price of tome items sets the value of a gil?

I'm going to go out on a limb here, but I think the economy is based off of the price of the items we buy with tomes.

If this is correct than the duty finder changes and an influx of 50's no longer needing philosophy tomes caused the market to crash.

A handful of items bought through a different type of currency does not an economy make. This is a fundamental of Economics, Supply & Demand. With more people gaining Philo stones to buy items with, it will only devalue those items currently being sold, it won't change the value of say Furnishings (housing prices already did that), consumables such as food, potions, etc., or any other items being sold at the market.

Those of us who play the market do it with caution. There are items we sell that may sell at high prices this week and fairly low prices next week. When I saw the new housing prices, I knew for a fact it would be pointless to start making furnishing items, no one would buy my items for a house they won't own for another 6 months. However that's just the tip of the iceberg.

If anything I see the value of the philo items going way down, due to the increase in philo and the other gear options you currently have in the game. But that won't affect me in anyway, I've made more money off of other items then philo, and while I may have delved into that market before the patch, it wasn't my main source of income.

markets are now and have always been unstable. you will not find a market anywhere and jump in it and make serious cash from now til the end of eternity. you may find something this week that sells great, but next week you will not sell any. this can be from multiple reasons, but the truth of the matter is the demand will change constantly and you will always have to be on the lookout for the next thing to make gil on if you want to sell in the markets.

You also have to consider the entire chain reaction. Cheaper philo items means i70 equipment is more accessible, which in turn makes IV materia cheaper (on top of the quest reward). So while, IV materia prices may have dropped, sales have picked up dramatically. Whether that's an overall plus or minus for the economy can't be said.

The price of tome items is dictated by the demand of them. Early on people were willing to pay 30k all day for them because people wanted the competitive edge in getting into Coil with the crafted i70 gear. Now there's no point in using it as you can get Philo and Myth tomes much easier, along with getting Crystal Tower loot.

In short, there's simply little demand for the crafted gear anymore.
