Mansions and land plot sizes

From what I understand, you need to have a mansion to get a workshop (which is required for airships and such).


Can mansions only be built on Large plots of land?

Yes. Each house type is specific to the plot size. Small Plot -> Cottage, Medium Plot -> House, Large Plot -> Mansion. (You can't even go the other way around, and put a cottage on a large plot.)

Agreed I haven't seen anything that tells us if there is a difference between Medium and Large houses other then the fact you can decorate more.

Its been a while, I dont even remember.
The last thing I want to do is waste millions of gil on a medium house that has no workshop.
Someone mentioned it before, but I cant find any legit sources of information on housing. So far, I know of NO fc's that even own a house on my server. I checked every zone, every instance, and all of them are fully empty.

On Lich there were 5 houses in limsa yesterday night. 3 or them small, 1 medium (i think) and one i don't know. Maybe you can get a hold of one of the guys with the medium house. I can't ask myself because i won't be able to log in for the next 10 or so days.

Group synthesis (That thing teased ever since 1.0 to build ships and giant cakes and other grand projects) isn't even out yet. Even if there was a housing size requirement for a worskhop, I don't believe houses have workshops yet. That all said, I highly doubt they're going to put out that content they've been teasing for fricken forever, and then restrict it in such a way that only the smallest fraction of the population can use it ever.

And then I look at the housing prices, which suggest the exact opposite.

It was one of the questions in Producers Live letter (I think X) and Yoshi himself answered that only Large plot / Mansion will be able to have underground workshop.

Housing costs are different, in that folks can save up to afford a house, given time. The supply of large house plots is limited, however, until they increase the number of housing districts. If it turns out that only a large house can allow you to do group synthesis, I imagine after the outcry of players one of two things will happen: Either they'll change the plots so most/all of them are large size, or they'll change it to allow a workshop in any size house.
