One of the primary goal of the FC housing system is to remove gils from the game. The way it is currently setup by placing outrageous prices on the land is not healthy in the long run.
This is because many FC and players will get discouraged and quit thus not making use of the housing features as originally planned for the community as a whole instead of currently being limited to small percentage of filthy rich players due to its extremely high prices.
A compromise can be suggested as followed:This will also accomplish the goal of removing gils from the game by the tax system, and make the housing system available for the community as a whole instead of limited to top tier rich players.
- slice off the prices of land by one zero
- implement a tax system where at the end of the day (eg. at tome reset time), tax is charged by removing the gils from the FC bank at a fixed rate per membership of the free comany. For example, if the FC has 100 members, and the rate is 50g per day, then everyday at reset, the FC bank will lose 5000 gil. If the FC bank is negative, then its house and features will be inaccessible until deposites are made to keep it positive.
- implement penalty for leaving FC (cannot rejoin until 3 days elapsed for example); or alternately restrict housing and its features access for members who joined the FC for at least 3 days; this is to prevent exploits by leaving/rejoin FC at reset time to reduce tax.
This also makes the FC to work together because tax is charged by the number of memberships; so its players will be more responsible as a whole.
As more features are added to the FC house (eg. airship, vendors, workshops, etc), the tax will go up accordingly; for example, a fully decked out FC house would charge 1000 gil per member per day; if the membership is maxed out at 512, that would be 512k gils removed every day.
Of course, those rates are arbitrary and should be tuned to the server's gils size and economy.
