The way to fix this... is to decrease the ping times that check if you are active or not. Right now it only checks like every 5 or 10 minutes if your alive.. and only removes you after missing 2 or 3 of them... if they pinged every 30-60 seconds.. then they could force a disconnect a little bit quicker...

I think the reason they do the longer DC is because of the transparent zone changes, giving the servers enough time to see if you've moved etc..

If someone who shows as logged in is trying to log in from the same ip address, do we maybe need to immediately force a logout on the first login?

Now with the significantly enhanced account security by the security token and one-time password like Square-Enix has mentioned in multiple occasions, why not engage similar login mechanism used for FF11, where a new successful login can take over the previous one (which might likely be a disconnected session)?

When you are disconnected you should be able to log back in within a minute. However, due to a bug that was discovered, certain data is being retained on the server that makes it think the character is still logged in, regardless of whether you were disconnected or not. This then causes the phenomenon to occur that stops you from being able to log in for up to 10 minutes.

Sorry for the time it took for us to discover a resolution to this, but this will finally be fixed in patch 1.19.
