You can't get into Coil cause they are looking for experienced players only?

Disclaimer: English is my 3rd language.

    Hello,

Recently I have been reading that some players are facing difficulties when it comes to finding a static spot in Coil groups. The usual suspect is experience or so many claim. The most common advice I have seen so far is “Lie” and I have an issue with this as I believe it is one terrible advice.

    My reasons are as follow:

1- A lie is a lie no matter how many videos you watch, the truth will come out and your Raid/Party leader will label you as a liar if he/she have peanuts for a brain let alone an actual skilled leader.
2- Raid leaders whom are looking for experienced players only are lazy and usually have no interest in actual progression.
3- Coil groups are static in nature and will lead you to have many in game social interaction with them, starting your friendship with a lie is the worst possible way to start it IMHO.

I may not have killed Twintania yet (8 weeks and 0 tank drops ), but I have led multiple hardcore Coil groups and hope to give you an actual advice and some pro tips that does not involve bad habits such as lying out of your teeth.

Note: My personal definition of hardcore group is a group of friends that get shit done in the least amount of time with pure skills and have fun doing it. Wither you agree or not is not the topic of this thread.

    My advice:

1- Make sure you are Coil ready by acquiring full DL or Crafted HQ gear. Coil T1-T4 can be done with less gear than full ilvl70 but I personally advice you to at least complete your DL.

2- Acquire all your cross class skills. This is important and missed by many, but I assure you there is a use for it in Coil especially the high level ones (i.e. Stone Skin for PLDs, eye for eye for BLMs).

3- Know your job in and out and make sure you are in complete control of it. This is not an easy one to achieve, the reason is, before coil there is little reason for you to ever use Focus target for example. There is also the matter of PS3 players not being able to do what PC players can, overcoming those obstacles are only going to make you a better player.

4- Wither you are on PS3/4 or PC, VOIP is almost always mandatory. There are good reasons why you must be able to at least listen to Voice communication so make sure you have access to it even from your Tablet or Smart Phone.

5- Ping issues, if you have it, then I highly advice you to find yourself a suitable Ping reducing service. Many offer free trails and there is no harm to go ahead and test them against Titan HM. I personally play from AUS with 320-400 ping, without such service I would not have been able to sell Titan HM or lead my own hardcore North American coil group.

6- Identify your preferred play style and make sure you fit the style. Are you a hardcore progression focused player or more casual that don’t mind wiping 20 times before killing Turn 2 every week? This is very important, if you join the wrong group it will just cause you and your group frustration and this is unwanted, we are here to have fun not be mad at each other’s.

7- Coil groups are almost always tied to an FC. In another word you won’t be able to join them unless you join the FC. This is unfortunate but it is the way it is. You may be able to start your own Link shell and find players from various FCs to join your Coil group but it does have many downsides to it as loyalty might be an issue.

8- Advertise yourself in Mor Dona & your server forums. Be honest and lay down your information as accurate as you could. Example: “/yell PLD LF casual static Coil group (preferred raid time 9:30 PM EST Mo & Tu), full ilvl 70 & Relic +1. I’m not experienced but I learn fast and have access to mumble/TS3/Vent/Raidcall.”

9- Make Friends, look for good Coil players whom are playing the same job as you. Ask them for advice, play with them when you can and ask if his/her FC got a spot for you in Coil. People are generally nicer than what you read here on the forums so don’t be afraid to make such social interaction.

10- Don’t give up after 10 minutes of shouting, try on multiple days at different times of the day. There is always a free spot somewhere, you just have to be patient.

11- The entrance to Coil is right by Wineport crystal. Talk to players there, ask around, you are bound to find something, even just a new friend. Many of the Coil groups there are part of FCs that run multiple groups.

I truly hope this thread help you find your perfect Coil group. If you ever need any help with Coil strategy up to Twintania snakes phase just PM me in game or here on the forums, I will do my best to help you out.

Yeah trying to find a coils party for someone beginning coil is frustrating, esecially when they say "follow the guide" then they do a completely different strategy leaving you confused...

Any group that is decent themselves will look for other similarly skilled individuals to form a static to run with.

The only advice there is to actually give to people who are attempting coil for the first time is to try turn 1 with a PuG to learn the mechanics and see if your skill/items measure up for the difficulty.

If you're having difficulty in Turn 1 of coil, you're definitely not ready for the later turns, so why bother forming a static group or even look for a static group?

Practice more with PuGs to improve at your role THEN start looking for a static group when you're ready.

If you do good in Turn 1 with a static group, it shows that you are either:
    a) naturally good
    or
    b) someone who actually put in effort to get better at the game

Either of those traits will make people think twice before giving you the boot compared to someone who didn't even bother to try it out firsthand and wishes to go straight into a static group.

Just lie. Don't wait weeks for a good soul to take you. Say you're experienced as f**k, go there, wipe as much as you need, and then the next time, you'll really be experienced.

lol just gonna throw this out there form your own coil group? sure theres 7 other people unexperienced that would love the opportunity to give it a try maybe by a few trial and errors your end up forming your own static group or least get the experience you need to join the other groups out there

    Yup.

FC/Statics are the best, the more you can communicate with your group the better. Being able to insult/complain/laugh in the company of people you like makes wiping tollerable and enjoyable as you learn the fight(s), and in the long run your overall group will appreciate it. Animosity between members will wipe you more than anything, it's terribly distracting

As much as this works, and it's the oldest trick in the book. It's painfully transparent, and easily deducted.

    [After 4-5 Wipes]

Me: "So, you've done this before right?"

    Them: "Yeah!"

    Bull-poop meter : WARM

Me: "Cool, cool...so...once we down ADS here, you know how the boss-fight in Turn 3 works right? With the maelstrom in the middle and to dodge the tsunamis, Leviathan is a real beast of a boss."

Them: "Yeah, i've done it before I might not do it just right the first time"

    Bull-poop meter : OVERDRIVE :

Me: "Ah right, just wanted to make sure you knew the boss fight before we get there."

    LINKSHELL/VoIP LAUGHTER ENSUES.

[Exit and find a replacement, as the 7 wipes were clearly their fault and all because they didn't simply say "Hey guys, I've never been before, fancy showing me how it's done?"]

People WILL notice that you're causing them to wipe in The Binding Coil of Bahamut, it's not something you can easily be carried through.
