A cheap way to make long lasting content

The content currently available is generally "clear once and be gone with it", then it only becomes "grind the same instance repeatedly". The only competition is for "world first" and "server first
". If players are to play the same content over and over with same excitement, there has to be competition for "world's best", "server best", "FC best" or "personal best". Some examples and propositions:

PvP - coming in 2.1, it better be good. Minigame pvp, like card game, chocobo racing etc works too.
Lowest clear time - currently used to get tomes as fast as possible, but official scoreboard would encourage to keep running an instance even if u cant get any better items from it atm.
Longest survival - protect a structure or npc for as longest as possible. Holding a stronghold for example. Enemies become stronger as time passes, can come in waves. Here even crafters could be enabled to participate - crafting item summons friendly npc that uses it.
Most enemies/enemy waves killed - Similar to coil turn 4, but waves are infinite. On the wave that we lost points are assigned based on sum of hp left in all monsters left when wiped divided by sum of max hp of all monsters in that wave.
Win with as bad gear as possible - Each gear piece is assigned point value based on its ilvl and slot. The sum of value of all party member gear is the final score. The lower the better. Cannot change gear inside instance.

Of course there has to world ranking, server ranking, maybe FC ranking and personal best tracking.

Some ppl may complain that they dont want competition and se should just make more content, but content costs. PvE competition content for only 25-50% more creation time can give 500%-2000% more entertainment time compared to "clear only" content.

Reminds me of BCNM fights that had clear times attached. I like it.

I'm a little sad that Hamlet Defense no longer exists, even though it was a huge grind. If it was just an optional cool thing that crafters could do as well, it would not be remembered so poorly.

PvP is the cheapest content to make.

My concern about PvP in this game though, is the lack of factions and the lack of unique talent choices.

Without factions, you lose a lot of the rivalry that makes it fun to kill other players. (I read they weren't even going to show the names of the other players?!)

Without unique talents, the combat might be a little too much of the same on both sides.

I could be wrong, but that's my worry about PvP in this game.

I don't see talent choices as a problem. You would end up with the same on both sides regardless of talent choices. The player's will always create a FOTM type of gameplay and will always play what the FOTM is regardless of what talent choices are available. As it is now the FOTM will be what classes are in PVP and people will level multiple 50's to fit in the FOTM. They will complain about it, but in the end everyone will be the warrior who leveled paladin because everyone goes "Warriors are bad" and then when people realize that Warrior is actually good, they'll switch back.
