    PS3 Tanking (Paladin)

    ~Tanking on PS3~ It is doable (Or PC with controller!)! I've recently leveled a DD job and wanted to see how others tank throughout the dungeons. So after fate grinding got boring I would queue up for one.

    While not every tank I saw was bad, most sadly were. And by bad I'm not trying to be an a**hole but some wouldn't even take advice. I've seen from PLD's not wanting to combo/flash to just using Rage of Halone spam. And a few WAR's that didn't want to overpower or combo etc. (don't know much about WAR stuff so I couldn't really help them out like PLD)

    Sadly most of these players I was seeing were PS3 players. Giving most of us a bad name while feeding to PC > PS3. I like PC more than PS3 due to the UI and I like mouse and keyboard more mine sadly broke so I'm stuck on PS3 until I get a new one.

    Also any feed back on how I set this up will be much appreciated! Not a big guide/how to and forum person just felt like I wanted to post it because I like this game ^^.

    Anyway this won't really be a guide on how to tank more of a look at my setup and why I put it there, it may work for you it may not.

    *Edit* (Mini Guide to rotation I decided to add)

    What I use on AOE and ST (Don't normally flash as much Single Target)

    (Combo = Fast Blade > Savage Blade > Rage of Halone)

    This is what I do;
    1. Shield lob 1
    2. Circle of Scorn
    3. Flash
    4. Start combo on 1
    5. After combo Flash
    6. Full Combo to Flash again

    After I'm done with step 6, I like to tab through mobs to see which I may be about to loose due to healer almost pulling aggro with heals or someone AOE'ing. To get them back I use either Savage Blade or Rage of Halone depending on what part of my rotation I'm on.

    **will be calling 'X' 'cross' because to me it looks better lol :<**

    Set 1 R2;
    Square - I just feel like it fit here because in most games square is light attack or melee.
    Triangle - Since in most fight games "heavy attack" is the same key so as the first combo it felt right.
    Circle - Putting it here made it flow easier than setting it on "Cross".
    Cross - Having it on the same keys as my 1-2-3 combo makes it easier incase I loose aggro.

    Left - Having a off Global cool down silence on R2 (button I hold the most) makes it easy to interupt!
    Up - Same as 'Spirits Within' only exception is that it is on the global cool down.
    Right - Same as 'Spirits Within' and 'Shield Bash' nice to just have to hold 1 button to pacify mobs when I block (also on global cool down).
    Down - 'Shield Lob'ing the mob you mark as 1 while only having to keep holding R2 works wonders for me. (Lose hate!? Tab to mob 'Provoke' to 'Shield Lob' normally gets it back!)

    I wanted to keep my defensive cooldowns on the L2 Button so if you followed me on R2 put them where ever they feel right to you. (Circle and Cross are the only 2 without defensive cooldowns on them but before I had got 50 around 30ish I planned where I wanted to put 'Circle of Scorn')

    Set 1 L2;
    Square - It just ended up there while I was trying to find out what I liked and been there ever since.
    *Triangle - Put here because only spot I had left lol.
    Circle - I originally had 'Flash' set to 'R2 Circle' But upon getting my 3rd combo I wanted to move it but wanted to keep on Set 1 so 'L2 Circle' was the next best thing.
    Cross - I wanted to keep this ability on Set 1 but due to me not having room on R2 I moved a defensive cool down to make room for it.

    **Left - While trying to keep defensive on L2 I was also trying to group up which defensive cooldowns I normally used together.
    *Up - Same as 'Awareness'
    Right - On other jobs I kept putting DD cooldowns here so it ended up staying (Marco'd with Bloodbath).
    **Down - Felt right when poping 'Rampart'.

    *Normally pop these together (Awareness & Foresight)
    **Sometimes pop theses together (Rampart & Convalescence)

    With this it makes marking easy, what ever you make your 1-2-3 combo put it on a 2nd set and it makes life a million times easier.

    Set 2 R2;
    Square - Same as Combo 1
    Triangle - Same as Combo 2
    Circle - Same as Combo 3
    Cross - In case I need mana couldn't find a better place to put it so left it here (rarely use it).

    Left - Disregard had there when I was leveling don't have anything there now. (If I had potion I would put them here I guess)
    Up - Ending up putting it here because when it was on my first Set (same spot) I kept hitting it on accident.
    Right - Disregard had there when I was leveling don't have anything there now. (If I had potion I would put them here I guess)
    Down - I put it here when leveling so I could cure myself while solo'n fates at lower levels so I wouldn't die.

    As I said before you can put your defensive cooldowns wherever you please but I ended up with them like this and it works for me.

    Set 2 L2;
    Square - Used to keep mount here on set 1, ran outta room so I moved it to set 2.
    Triangle - Used to keep mount here on set 1, ran outta room so I moved it to set 2.
    Circle -
    Cross - Used to keep sprint here on set 1, ran outta room so I moved it to set 2.

    Left - Just ended up here.
    Up - Just ended up here.
    Right - Just ended up here.
    Down - Meh, only used this on 1 fight in CMSR's haven't had any real use for it yet though.

    WUUUT this is kinda cool. We have the exact. EXACT same combat bar setup so far. My "PLD" is only 30 ATM, but our X hot bar is identical in skills I already obtained.

    i play on PC, but played on PS3 for a bit, to help out friends.

    what i ended up doing was;

    chotbar1 i made "up" /chotbar change 2

    with a cool down displayed with /micon "Name"

    then on page2, i put up my cool downs, and a few mixed together. along with the SAME button being a marking macro that pulls or uses fast blade, THEN puts u back to page 1. (All my CDs bring u back to page1 with /chotbar change 1)

    1 side is primary abilities, and 1 side is reactionary abilities.

    page3 is my "combo" page.

    For PLD u have rage of halone or riot blade, but for WAR u have even more buttons to press.

    So what i did was put the 1st ability (in this case fast blade) and the 2nd abilities (savage and Riot) on my main bar.

    Savage Blade is a macro.
    /micon "Savage Blade"
    /ac "Savage Blade" <t>
    /chotbar change 3

    On page 3, under the SAME button, is Rage of Halone, but with /chotbar change 1.

    So I would hit square, then X, then X again.

    This is a very interesting concept I never thought about. I might try this type of idea on my PGL as well :P

    That's a pretty neat idea, I have it set up so when I tap R1 it only cycles between my Set 1 & 2.

    If you don't know how to set that up you go into, Character Configuration > Hotbar Setting > Cross > Enable customization (I selected both for in/out of combat) > Then select what hotbars you want.

    I only have 1 & 2 selected so it only can switch to those 2 even if I have abilities set on other pages. Unlike what it defaults to where it cycles through all the pages you have abilities on.
