More noticable incap's on Notorious monsters.

One of the few good things about the current battle system is incapacitation on body parts, however, with some of the end game nm's i feel this has been rushed, and doesn't convay the quality and care I have come to expect from the Final Fantasy genre.

For example (of what is good), when the horns of the great buffalo are incapped, they snap off, a very clear visual indication that you have achieved your goal.

However, with haughtpox bloatbelly who head, left and right arm can be incapped, there is no indication that you've done your job.

If have 'maimed' the left arm, using the maurader ability Maim, i kinda expect atleast some kind of visual indication that i've rendered his arm.

At the very least, considering the ridiculous 'LIGHT PARTY' and 'FULL PARTY' ghastly 3d things we get shoved in our face when we form a party, would we not have something similar that says 'LEFT ARM INCAPACITATED', when LS chat, PT chat, battle chat is scrolling up the screen at a fairly quick pace, its near impossible to spot the text mentioning you've incapped the limb your attacking.

As a secondard note to this, most of the NM's are merely carbon copys of mobs with more health.

Would it be so hard to perhaps scale them up abit, to make them stand out against other mobs of the same type, or even, give them a defining feature, a scar over 1 eye, war paint, (surely just a different texture would be needed here), a unique weapon or a clear indication that they are vastly superior to their peers.

I don't want to end on a low though, the plethora of new lvl 30 NM's shows alot of promise, I am eagerly looking forward to instanced dungeons.

So, this is a little call for abit more care and attention on NM's in general, what do you think people of eorzea?

The Monster Hunter series shows off mob damage extremely well. They have broken horns, torn wings, severed tails, scars and more.

I would really enjoy a similar effect in this game.

I'd like more noticeable incap visual indicators on all mobs, not just NMs. The incap system is a good idea, but is implemented very weakly at the moment.

goats and antelopes get their horns knocked off. Ants get their jaws knocked off. Crabs' shells get cracks in it. Peistes put their head down.

IIRC all the NM's in FFXI were no different than the other monsters in their families, other than being slightly larger. I can't recall any having unique models, other than things like the Orcish Hexspinner.

Sorry, I wasn't directly referring to FF11, more, the final fantasy genre as a whole.

I do agree though, that NM's should have a little uniqueness about them, like the slug that spawns in South East Limsa area, didn't even notice it was an NM at first - It should be hovering with a glow around it, wearing sunglasses and dancing to dubstep... or something >_>!

They had the right idea with the model differences for the rank 50 NMs. Hopefully with the "polygon shaving technology" they use, they can do more with all rank NM diversity.

Also as far as incaps go, every enemy...or at least the fairly large ones, should have a possible incapacitation.
