Following the Current Purple feed, and stop at first feather proc, likely the 2nd pear.
The 1st pear is still in the Current Purple range, and 2nd pear brings you into the Soot Black range, all the fruits thereafter is for fine tuning to Soot Black's RGB value.

Wish these things didn't take 6 hours to happen, I normally pick a path and feed it before going to sleep as to check on her when I wake.Ouch, you were at Deepwood Green, weren't you? You said you tried the path, you followed the one I posted at the beginning right after the OP? If yes, use it again but adjust it.
In that feed, the first pineapple is still in the Deepwood color range, but the first valfruit drops you into the Soot Black range, the two fruits following fine tunes the RGB closer to the soot black RGB. You can try feeding just the first two fruits and you should get a feather proc right there then you can stop.
Did the same deepWood Path in the op, proced on first Pineapple which was different than how it happened before but I did the whole path and got ... Loam Brown.
Guess I should wait for feed back before progressing from this :[
Anybody brave and want to give this a try?
Total Fruit Needed:
22 Apples
22 Pears
31 Berries
4 Plums

Also could try like this, but getting the blue so low might cause problems, so probably better to try in the smaller chunks (5 at a time).
Is there a faster way to Black?Code:Starting Colour Desert Yellow Step Feed Qty 223 183 87 1 berry 9 178 138 132 2 plum 4 158 158 152 3 apple 15 233 83 77 4 pear 15 158 158 2 5 berry 15 83 83 77 6 apple 7 118 48 42 7 pear 7 83 83 7 8 berry 7 48 48 42 Target Colour RGB 47 47 39 Target Colour Soot Black
I could reset and try it myself, but mine is already Soot Black, so would hate to mess that up.
EDIT:
And a very similar process for Snow White ...

got 1st feather proc @ 1st pear... waiting for 6 hours T_T
What I can tell, is Deepwood <-> Soot Black <-> Loam Brown, so you may be overfeeding due to left over RGB values as others have suggested earlier with this "range" effect. If this is true, we are in a new area that no one has done any testing with. You may want to fall back to the old one feather proc method, following the feed order below, and stop at 1st proc, wait 6 hrs, then con't with the feeding at where you left off to next proc, keep doing this until you hit soot black. Hope this will get you back on track.
Loam Brown -> Soot Black -> Deepwood

Hmm, don't use counter fruits in the same mix will help reduce the fruits. Remember, Apple = +R-G-B, plum = -R+G+B, so the net effect = 0,0,0. 8 fruits waste in 1st, and 18 on 2nd.
1st = 16 Apples, 22 Pears, 31 Berries
2nd = 17 Plums, 13 Valfruit, 4 Pineapple

Hmm, I got my Snow White straight from Desert Yellow with much less fruit. It was following the first person to post Snow White and how to get it in the first Chocobo R&D thread.

There have been several players mentioning that you can obtain Snow White from Desert Yellow using only something like 12+ plums. I don't remember the exact thread/page it was posted in however. :/
Edit: My original post said "berries" but I meant "plums". Updated to fix my typo. @_@

You can definitely get snow white by only using doman plums when using single proc method.
