You're not alone on this, I feel the same towards most NPC dialogues, most notably the 'U tribe' chain quests and class/job quests. (and many other NPCs that's part of a chain sidequest)

Well ... 'Chain EXP Bonus' and 'Rested EXP Bonus' are shown in the logs ... and in the 'Active Help' section in-game, it clearly says that it depends on the 'discrepancy' between your current level...

The way it works is that it gives you a bonus EXP (for DoW/M killing & FATEs) depending on the gap between your current Class(DoW/M) and your highest.
