Chronoscrolls/PLEX do favor people with a disposable income, but it also makes it so people without a disposable income can theoretically play for "free/gil". It has worked in other games... perhaps...

This is true, to be flexable you need 3 or so 50s with various other jobs around 25-30, but that's still not hard.

Level progression does not need to be any faster, you can already get to 50 in less than one month on a casual amount of play time.

Crafting is not something normal people finish in a week. It is a long, boring process.
Most of the way it's going to cost you money if you aren't sticking to leves and leveling much slower.

So...

There are some pieces, mostly crafting clothes, where the Dated Version is somewhat better or situationaly better.

It'd be nice if they could intigrate the stats on similar pieces.
