You can just use up the gathering points for the school and let it dissipate. Then its just normal fishing with no school.

The Cretified Matter at Nine Ivies is also at -5 so I am guessing they all might be. I also found Fingerprints of the Gods to have a low rate of activation for me aswell.

I think your right about the bow. But instead of turning it upside down it looks like the top part can fold down so it can be played then folded back out to shoot.

I agree with what some others have said already, it does not bother me. They could add some more landmarks to the areas.
