I like the chests, sometimes you get something good, you always get a little bit of gil and you can NPC the trash for more gil. Keep em as is I say =)

There are 2 modes, one like you just described where it is only displayed when you hold the button down and one where pressing the button turns it on/off.

So I read the rep response that said come 2.0 base stats will play a more integral role than stats on gear. My question is, what will happen to materia? Will the values be tweaked come 2.0...

I would say that this is not just an issue with PL, but with the structure of the game.
