No one would argue that 1.0 was anywhere near playable at launch. People talking fondly about it are meaning 1.17-1.23
I honestly liked 1.23 far, far more than ARR.
- Large, seamless open world
- Crafting systems that were actually important to character progression and economy
- Weighty character animations
-...
Sorry, but 1.0 was far, far superior in the armor model and texturing departments, and completely blows ARR away with it's weighty and motion captured animations. Just look at the armor and movement...
I never understood the whole 'illusion of choice' argument. Fuck that. I don't give two shits if something isn't optimal as long as it's viable
I'd take unbalanced variety over balanced...
Or perhaps she can star in a Valentine's Day event, with a small plot line about hooking her up with Wedge
This is an interesting idea
Too interesting. Too much stress. Sorry
But that's the problem. There isn't.
It's s shame. Their crafting and gathering systems were one of two truly unique and marketable aspects of the game (Other being the Armory System)
And yet...they made a game in which neither are...
No, what he's asking for is the game not to be a one trick pony like most modern MMOs. Sadly I think Square is playing it far, far too safe with ARR. I'm honestly missing 1.23 at this point
I have the DL wrist piece, and HQ rings with melded crit and ACC
I have the AF2 head piece, which I can't wear with the cowl. The Dema Robe and AF2 Head piece have higher stats than the Cowl...
I simply can't stand to run AK a single more time
HP - 3365
INT - 415
ACC - 400
Crit - 431
DET - 268
Spell Speed - 417
As many people predicted it would during the Alpha and Beta, ARR fell right into the same trap nearly every single other modern MMO falls into; Too much focus on 'content'. That sounds weird to say...
I finally got the server transfer to work, but I seem to be able to pick from any server...except the one I actually want. Is it full or should I just keep refreshing?
I had three gear sets for PLD in 1.0; An Enmity set, an HP set, and a high DEF set for beastmen camps. All were useful for different situations. That's what I want. Choice. Variety. Builds. Fun.
You don't have to have gear swapping to make not boring gear
Alright, honestly it's not the ilvl thing that bothers me, it's just how boring gear is. I haven't played in a week just because DL and...
The simple fact that there's even an innately -best piece- (Or in XIV's case, that there's not even a potential argument) is the very problem. It's boring. I have no desire to farm for more DL or AF2...
I sincerely hope this is parody
Please read the thread. Thanks
This. Every single word of it
I'm not worried about undergearing or whatever
My primary concern is that the very system itself pigeonholes gear progression into a very boring linear path
XI didn't have iLvl. It also maintained it's level cap over a looooooong period of time. Gear in that game was often situational, some pieces doing elemental damage, different attack damage types...
Why? At least have a discussion with me. I don't see much benefit to it other than to place artificial limits on players
Yeah, which is why we have this awesome system called 'Materia' to make gear with otherwise desirable traits but with less stats on par w- Oh wait.
The problem is that SE didn't create a 'Summoner', they created a WoW-esq Warlock and called it Summoner
In fact that's how I feel about a majority of the game. They didn't make a 'Final Fantasy'...
