Alpha First Look: Video 1 - Character Creation

We're proud to show off the first in a series of videos where we'll be showcasing footage of the Alpha version of FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn! The first video features a look at character creation!

Please note that the footage being shown is in Japanese. However, we'll be on hand to help clear questions you may have. Also note that the only races currently available in the Alpha version are Hyur (Midlander - Male) and Miqo'te (Seeker of the Sun - Female). As for classes, players will be able to select either archer, lancer or conjurer.

While everything shown is a work-in-progress we're very excited to show off how A Realm Reborn is shaping up! Stay tuned for more videos in the series!

• Some are concerned about the reduced limit in name length, right now the max is 15 per name (eg Boboboboboboboo Boboboboboboboo) in the new one it shows a 20 so 10 per name limit. Will they be forced to rename their characters?

For those not aware, you will have the chance to re-customize your character as a one time option in ARR.

Looks sharp! Definitely a good first showing, and that music is wonderful.

The excitement level is building!

I'm assuming that the reason why there are no new faces/hairstyles is because it's only Alpha version but I do hope there are new additions.

omgomgomg cant wait! :o right now though the choices of customization for the hair seem almost the same to what we have now...but probably because its alpha lol

I'm absolutely dying to get my hands on this.

Even more excited by the fact that Llen will still look like Llen with the new engine. I can't wait!

What is with those face tatoos @9:17. Are those the Dalamud surivivor marks?

Ok so this video is out, and it looks amazing. My question is, are we going to be able to change the way our current characters look when ARR launches? Theres a bunch of new customisations now that werent there when some of us made these characters. Myself for example, created mine the day of live release back in 2010.

Very nice. So glad you guys threw the rest of us a video "bone" so others wont be tempted to risk breaking the nda in a noble attempt to give us a glimpse of things. Thanks for this helps makes the wait a bit more bearable.
