I was really excited when the new UI was announced, and I was really looking forward to it, but then it never actually got implemented on the live servers. It was only briefly available on the test server. I'm sure SE has still got the necessary code and project files for this kicking around somewhere in their office database. Surely it wouldn't be too difficult to just take what was available on the test server and push it to the live servers?

No. A very early version appeared on a test server but there were apparently some major issues that blocked further development, as far as I understand, all work on it ceased a long time ago, before the announcement of Rhrapsodiies as noted above. Maybe with the game being PC only now they could reconsider it but I imagine it would be a lot of work.

The person behind it is no longer even working at SE to my knowledge (at least not on the XI project), so it won't happen. Then throw in the fact XIV is a thing, very little chance of it coming to fruition. It's on perma hiatus especially when XIV was being revamped and SE hasn't given much support towards XI since, since despite how simple an UI is compared to everything else, they just simply don't have the resources to do it.

Mainly the fact that the person who was developing it is gone. and basically nobody else had the code or something. As above.
