We need to talk about Voodoo gear

Im not sure I understand the principle behind the HQ gear of this set.

The odds of making a cursed -1 item are about 8% with full gear and at 11 over the craft.

The odds of then turning it into a HQ 119 cursed item are also about 8%.

Everything Im about to write is assuming eschite ore is dirt cheap and easy to get.

A large amount of hexed gear costs about 1-2 mil to craft across various servers. Assuming supply is fine (it isnt, most of the mats to make the hexed gear isnt on a lot of server's AHs), and assuming prices dont skyrocket as demand shoots up for this, we're looking at an average of 1.5 mil per hexed gear cycle of crafting.

The odds of a T0 synth HQing, using a NQ hexed gear, are about 2.5% with rings and etc.

So the odds of having the mats to make a Hexed gear and then reforge it and HQ are as follows:

8%*8% + 92%*2.5% = about 3% chance at ending up with an HQ 119 hexed item...

Assuming it costs 1.5 mil or so per attempt, after TWENTY-TWO attempts you have a about a 50% chance of still not having a voodoo item.

After FIFTY attempts you have about a 20% chance at no voodoo item still. FIFTY!

At 1.5 mil a shot (Still assuming eschite ore is dirt cheap and theres tonnes on AH), thats 33 million gil for a crafter to have a 50% chance at making an HQ 119 hexed item.

And this has a Set: bonus? What on EARTH do we think the odds of a single player across all the servers actually managing to suit up in FIVE of these pieces of gear?

The odds of 5 pieces of the same hexed set all being HQed in 119 form AND the same player getting there hands on that set are so incredibly low, and the amount of gil that set of five gear is worth more than a relic weapon.

Then it will take easily another 15 million gil on top of all that to mezzotint the full set up to level 15.

I really want to know what the dev's intent behind giving the HQ set of armor a Set: bonus is.

Are they taunting us? Is making this gear supposed to be only for the utmost elite of players, to such a degree maybe 1 player in the whole game will pull off a 5/5 hexed set?

    Whats the deal here?

Sounds about right. NQ for the masses, HQ for those who really, really want it. If you don't want to go through the rigmarole to obtain the HQ... just accept the notion that it isn't for you.

I'm of the opinion that they shouldn't be making hundreds of pieces of gear just for 1% of the player base, but to each his own.

It's not 100s. It's 55 total that are HQ. The 100s of pieces of gear is for the masses, not the 1%. They even included the Sinister Reign content as well which has comparable gear (if not better). Also, some of those NQ cursed gear is amazing. For instance one could argue that the Souveran Cuirass, which is the NQ, is on par or even better than the Tartarus body from Vagary. So many of you are decrying the reforged cursed gear when you don't even know all the facts. All of you that are whining about it need to stop trying to convince SE to make it easier as there are people that want to strive for something difficult to obtain in this game. People who are too lazy/bad players should not be able to destroy it for the rest. People like that should just accept the NQ and go on their merry way.

Square Enix: Please do not listen to all these complainers. You did an awesome job with this latest update. Not only does it bring life back into crafting, it brings difficult goals for people to strive for, but also has decent gear for those who don't want to take the difficult path. Also, pretty much everyone is saying the Sinister Reign content is awesome. It provides an inexpensive, alternate (or even an additional) path for those that don't want to deal with the cursed gear.

55 in just this particular line of gear. I have multiple mythics / relics / empys. I'm not lazy or bad. Just logical. Content and items should be available to the masses. The masses pay the bills.

Heres the issue most people dont get.

All of the cursed gear has both mysterious set bonuses (which cant be tested until the set is finished) and can be mezzotinted, which we also cant know until someone makes the gear.

No one is gonna blow 10s of millions of gil on mystery stats. SE needs to release the mezzotint paths and the set bonuses for the HQ sets, or else no one will want to risk millions and millions of gil on mystery stats.

Actually if you think about it what if all 4 mezzotint paths are good for different things? Then you will need 4 set of the 5 HQ pieces that costs hundreds of millions of gil to make.

    Thats not the point.

The point is someone could blow tens of millions of gil, mezzotint the piece of gear and... its mezzotints are crap :/

Wont know until we make it. And since every items path D is different, we'd need to make and tint every single item to check.

After people get burned once or twice making a very expensive piece and finding out the mezzotints are worthless, they'll be very reluctant to continue.

SE needs to release a list of the mezzotints for the -1 sets, and release info on all the HQ set bonuses. Otherwise everyone will be very reluctant to risk a LOT of gil on 'mystery' stats.

The HQ augs are the same as the NQ only higher. You can pretty much gleam what the HQ augs will be from seeing the NQ augs.

You didnt address the Set: bonus though.

Se should either add the set bonus to the NQ gear so we can test that, or release info on the set bonus. One or the other.
