In other threads, it was narrowed down to their antivirus software thinking ffxi.dll was malware and was removed or quarantined. I suggest you start looking there.
I heard that Norton Antivirus is the culprit.
I spent 2 days with Norton tech support to analysis the problem.
We uninstalled everything and came at it from scratch.
When the dust cleared (9 hr reinstall of FFXI) the same error came up and then a new problem happened. The Player viewer starts crashing. I am at the point of cancelling my subscription for a few months...
The game worked well up until July 10th when they did a maintenance update. They have a program or file conflict.
