    Windows 10

I upgraded to Windows 10, and then successfully completed the update through PlayOnline, but whenever I try to run FFXI, I get a pop-up asking me to install DirectPlay. This problem is clearly related to the upgrade, but is this a Windows pop-up or a PlayOnline/FFXI pop-up, and is there a known solution to this issue?

    Steps:
Update from Windows 7 to Windows 10
    Log onto PlayOnline
Download latest FFXI version through PlayOnline
    Attempt to run FFXI

    Date & Time:

    Frequency:

    Platform:
    Windows 10

    PC Manufacturer & Model Number:
    “Homebuilt Computer”

    Operating System:
    Windows 10

    Graphics Card:
    NVidia GeForce GTX 560 Ti

Haha, nice idea. I should have mentioned, though, that that's impossible. The pop-up doesn't respond to any user input.

Go to control panel -> programs and features -> turn windows feature on / off -> Legacy Components -> turn on direct play

    That worked. Thanks, bazookatooth. /bow

I wonder why Microsoft's tech support didn't think of that....

Yes, they have tech support in three different ways (FYI: They call it Microsoft Answers).

    1) Retail copy: They provide you support complete and free. I'm not sure of the time period.

    2) Retail and OEM: Any issue with Windows Update, as long as it is a valid copy (OEM or Retail), they will help.

    3) Pay per call. I'm not sure of the price ($9.99, $19.99, ???) and if they can't fix/resolve the problem/question there is no charge.
