when you look at the name it only has one character, is that going to be deleted if I save another character?
I tested it, when you save one char it says the last save char that is saved in that spot. it overrides your main save to save other saves on server. I was hoping they would make it so each char saves to its own server slot.
Hey there,
Long-time lurker (and by long-time, I mean like 12+ years). Not here to annoy anyone, so apologies in advance if this post does.
I've conducted a cursory search on 'race change/name change,' and it appears that the biggest underlying issue is of a technical nature, where devs have stated that with the technology used for this game makes it nearly impossible to implement.
I use the word 'impossible' to emphasize that it would pose some exponentially difficult or titanic effort to move forward on, but I am rather curious as to what this would be. The reason I ask is because how I read their rationale is that there simply is not infrastructure built to implement the system, and that they would not like to invest additional dollars into building something where the assumed cost outweighs the assumed benefit (assuming that players would not use the feature and that devs would be placed into a position where they allocated billables toward building something that just cost money and serves no purpose).
But is this actually true? Has there been some statistical research done on whether or not players would actually use it? The race change request goes back all the way to the late 2000's, up until two days ago. There definitely is a desire for it, so why can't devs invest into whatever it is that needs to be built to implement? If it is due to the sheer amount of people that may use it, just stagger how world transfers used to be (hell, tell people their race change won't happen for 1 week from the time the request is made).
Not only will race/name changes add replay value, but would also be an additional source of income that would work itself once the system actually was built.
With modern tech and know-how, I seriously cannot imagine this being an impossible feat. Would it be difficult for the lead dev to lobby for this? There's definitely demand, why not address that demand with something beyond "sorry can't be done," or at least say something like, "we're looking into whether this could be done in the future"?
Thanks for reading.

If they are saying that, then honestly they have too much spaghetti code tying together various aspects into your race and/or gender for each character. Have to untangle mass amounts of code and what it affects database-wise would definitely be a struggle for a developer of something that was designed from the start to be concrete. Don't forget that the system was built upon old technology, and never really improved much past that point (they had to buy all of the PS2 devkits at one point to continue developing for us).
What if they made it a system that doesn't have an ingame explanation? Just have us select the race on our accounts page and we log in to a char recreation menu?
I've looked through their responses as well and I kind of get the read that they dont want to go messing with any of the char creation coding. They can already promp the recreation menu for a name change. So why not just give us a warning that any JSE gear would become unequippable, and have us use a system that is "less involved" to initiate the race change? This can bypass having to do as much new coding as was discussed, they just rip out the intro cutscene and let us spawn in as our new form.
Thank you for changing Crysta payment options :3
It honestly doesn't matter what solutions are proposed for race change since the devs have absolutely no intention of working on it. They just restated that recently, and have yet to give any indication at all even after all these years that they are even willing to consider considering it.
