    Forum Banning Policies?

    A couple questions.

    1) When you ban someone for whatever reason, is it customary to send an e-mail to them with contact information and citation on where and how they violated forum rules?

    2) What constitutes "Discrimination against a certain group or individual", or is it a vague 'violation' for moderators in a bad mood to use for discrimination against specific forum goers?

    Read this.

This has been done before and I doubt much has chanced in the policy. From my understanding the forum and game are connected some what. If you get banned on the game you lose forum access and if your banned on the forum you MAY lose game access. Either way they can ban for anything it's just they don't. Alot of times they don't obligate themselves to explain their reasons. Sometimes it's to hide internal policing secrets or protect whistle blowers.

For the most part it usually takes a serious offense or being totally stupid to get ban both in game or forum. For instance if you talk about staff or employees in a direct derogatory manner you'll be getting hit with a suspension really quickly. Do it enough and they'll ban permanently. It's like when a criminal shoots at a cop. The cops band together as a family to take down the criminal. There's nothing that can make the police more aggressive then to see another of their comrades attacked.

This even extends outside of the site. On another online game a player was ban from the game. He went and created an online web page to complain about the staff. No longer being allowed in the game using an external site he slammed the developers game and employes. None of it was slander so they couldn't get him for that. He made one critical mistake though that landed him in deep trouble allowing the developer to enact revenge on him and bring down his site. He used the games screen shots!

Other players who where supportive fans of the game used screen shots but the company always turned blind eyes toward those players. The company contacted the ISP got his web page taken down, His ISP removed him and they took him to court for copyright violations.

All in all its how you push the police not as much what rules you break. Little infringements night be ignored and have minor action taken but if you're violent rude or dig your own grave it just makes them more prone to take stronger actions ageist you. In most terms of service agreements you have little or no protection. It's also not a requirement for them to update or explain their reasoning to protect themselves.

I'm sorry your questions weren't answered fully but this should give you some insight. Good luck getting a straight answer.

Ah, it all makes sense now.

Note to self: Never call SE out on anything, especially how moderators conduct themselves (at least on their forums ^^).
