Could Time Mage have worked in FFXI?

I am bored at the moment and have been thinking about this lately. Could Time Mage have worked in FFXI?

Time Magic has been a staple in the Final Fantasy series for pretty much ever. As stated in the above image Time Mages grant advantages to their allies, filling the roles of buffing, debuffing and damage much like RDM, SMN and SCH. On FFXI, Time magic is spread across multiple mage jobs.

    Haste
    Slow, Slow II
    Bind / Immobolize
    Teleport and Warp spells
    Silence and Mute
    Gravity, Gravity II
    Comet and Meteor

Other Time Magic spells not available to jobs in FFXI include:

    Stop
    Demi
    Old
    Hastega
    Slowga
    Graviga
    Reflect
    Float
    Quick

When Wings of the Goddess was announced and was revealed to take place in the past, I immediately thought Time Mage was going to be added. But we know how that turned out.

Anyway, do you think Time Mage would work in FFXI? I can imagine some people's reasons being that it would discredit Red Mage and that all Time spells are already distributed among other jobs. But if Time Mage was to be implemented, do you see it having a pivotal role inside of parties and alliances?

This is an idea of how I think the Time Mage spell list would look like.

Lv.1 Demi [Deals non-elemental damage based on the enemy's maximum HP]
    Lv.5 Bind
    Lv.8 Slow
    Lv.11 Silence
    Lv.13 Gravity
    Lv.15 Demiga
    Lv.17 Warp
    Lv.19 Tractor
    Lv.20 Teleport-Holla/Dem/Mea
    Lv.22 Escape
    Lv.25 Haste
    Lv.27 Teleport-Altep/Yhoat
    Lv.26 Demi II
    Lv.29 Warp II
    Lv.33 Teleport-Vhazl
    Lv.35 Slowga
    Lv.37 Retrace
    Lv.39 Recall-Jugner/Meriph/Pashh
    Lv.40 Demiga II
    Lv.42 Hastega
    Lv.45 Bindga
    Lv.47 Graviga
    Lv.49 Quicken [Increases movement speed]
    Lv.50 Comet
    Lv.50 Slow II
    Lv.51 Demi III
    Lv.52 Haste II
Lv.55 Old [Rapidly ages the enemy, lowering it's level]
    Lv.55 Teleport-Wajaom/Alzadaal
Lv.58 Reflect [Magic directed at a target with Reflect will bounce back to its caster]
    Lv.60 Mute
    Lv.63 Demiga III
    Lv.65 Silencega
    Lv.68 Demi IV
    Lv.70 Warpga
    Lv.70 Teleport-Ru'Avitau/Lumoria
    Lv.72 Quicken II
    Lv.74 Retracega
    Lv.75 Slowga II
    Lv.77 Demi V
    Lv.78 Hastega II
Lv.79 X-Zone/Remove [Sends enemy to the void]
    Lv.80 Teleport-Threshold
    Lv.80 Gravity II
    Lv.81 Demija
    Lv.83 Immobolize [Bind II]
Lv.85 Call [Nexus cape effect: The party is warped to the location of the Time Mage(A prompt appears asking party members to accept the warp)]
Lv.85 Stop [Stops the target like Terror]
Lv.88 Quick-Magic [Buff - Next magic spell cast is instant]
    Lv.90 Impact
    Lv.92 Reflectra
    Lv.92 Graviga II
    Lv.95 Meteor
Lv.97 Quick-TP [Buff- Grants "Save-TP" to the target]
    Lv.99 Slow III

    Combat Skills

    Club B
    Staff B-
    Dagger D

    Magic Skills

    Time Magic A+
    Enhancing B+
    Enfeebling A-

Job traits and abilities would supplement Time Mage's enhancement, debuff and damage spells along with JAs like Divine Seal, Elemental Seal, etc.

Paladin is the job I have poured my heart and soul into. It's my pride and joy and all my effort goes into it.

    ...

But I would easily cast my PLD aside if Time Mage was introduced.

However....it's enfeebling and enhancing skill, while I understand why they are fairly high, would be the final nail in the coffin for RDM.

Also, for your skill "Quick Magic" that makes the next spell instacast, RDM already has this ability called Spontaneity which already does that and can target party members.

Time Mage would have worked if they had added it instead of Scholar. But now that SCH is here and has the ______ over Time niche, it won't work. Which is too bad, because I was one of those who really really wanted Time Mage. I came up with a list of spells and so on much like you did; interestingly enough, mine paralleled SCH in another way by having spells like the storm spells, but for days of the week (and moon phases) instead of weather effects. (Incidentally, weather effect spells seem much more like something Geomancer should have, so add GEO to RDM and a hypothetical TIM to the list of jobs SCH screws over just by existing.)

I want time mage more then any other job, but they'll never give it "natural" access to spells that other jobs require merits to obtain.

While I really do love the ideas you put forth, realistically there are several that wouldnt come to fruition:

    1) RDM is supposedly the main "debuff" job in the game and by giving tier 2 (which are merit only magics) and tier 3 (which... other than dia and bio wont happen due to "balance") enfeeble spells to time mage you take away one of the only things left rdm might be asked to do (other than refresh). SE would also never likely give a job specific merit magic to another job (unless they made the magics available normally and merits merely increased potency a la protect/shell 5 vs pro/shell-ra 5)

    2) The levels you give several spells are far too low. RDM doesnt get slow 2 until 75, and theres no way they would give another job that at 50. Hastega: SE very purposely didnt allow SCH or /sch to aoe haste with accession at level 40. While smn does get hastega at 48 with garuda, its also not enitrely mp efficient to fulltime the buff at that level. And sure as anything would most certainly not get haste 2 at 52 >.> (as sexy as this would be)

    3) They would likely not create a new skill type (time magic), rather just allocate new spells to existing skills. Adding a new skill type is a lot of work for them, as they have to set resist rates etc on quite a lot of mobs, and then decide if mobs are to be given this skill and how to balance it against players etc.

The series of demi spells would be added to dark magic (and potentially instead be dark elemental in contrast to banish/holy)

    4) Sadly I would see this job being quickly placed in the same group that rdm finds itself in (last option basket) outside of being used as a magic-transport and lowman/funsies job

I dont mean to be negative or put your ideas down at all, because I again stress that I love the ideas.. just knowing SE they would more likely add a couple of these spells to rdm/sch/whm/blm rather than create a new job (thus needing to design AF/Relic/Mythic/Empyrean armor/weps and sift through every piece of mage gear and decide whether time mage would go on it or not)

EDIT: I can see reflect being a very double edged sword... while the player might reflect enemy magic attacks, it would also likely reflect cures leading to some bad situations where some nub would forget to remove reflect and then dies because he cant be cured... loool

They could potentially combine your time mage ideas with something like an chemist/alchemist (item "mage") to make a very interesting hybrid mage indeed!

As I stand looking out from my mog house window, I reminisce about the old days and the many ups and downs of my adventures throughout Vana'diel.

It is then that I know achievement.

I put forward this idea for Time Mage way back when...

Jikuu Sage (Time and Space Sage) (and the following 4 posts)

(I've got a Chemist in there too... one page back in my megathread

There's so much more that can be done with jobs like this in the FF universe, if looked at creatively.

I'd say adding time mage is a terrible idea.

Time mage is definitely a support/enfeebling type of job

With that said the pillars of Time mage would be the same as Red mage and that's with slow and haste unfortantly for RDM if you take slow away from RDM thats really it for RDM and all that would be left is para for a job that is ment to specialism in enfeebling.

Anyway, I kinda feel that RDM is Time mage any way with chainspell, slow, fast cast and haste, being the main traits of what time mage really is.

Personally, I'd prefer a Time mage gear set for Red mage more than then adding a job that would probably step on the toes of some many others.

With that said some of your ideas would be great for RDM

Old, Reflect, Stop and Mute would be things that would breath new life into RDM.

I do remember reading when that was posted about how the dev-team regard SCH as being the "Damage over time" specialist. I do not buy that at all. That seems like an awful excuse for not implementing higher tiers of Dia, Diaga, Poison, Poisonga and Bio and even Virus.

If you have Altana Viewer you can see all of the unreleased spells like Confuse, a myriad of bard songs including massacre elegy, dia 1-5, diaga 1-5, bio 1-5, poison 1-5, poisonga 1-5, Tier IV --ga tier IV and V nukes, -San ninjutusu, berserk, Toad, wall, reflect, Faith, etc. etc. A lot of those would make perfect sense for RDM.

A lot of mage jobs already step on each others toes. In fact, they all do. They each share a piece of what the other already has such as WHM specializing in curing and relieving their comrades of status ailments can also enfeeble. BLM, DRK, BRD, BLU can also. We all know this. Any new mage job that is added will definitely do that, though I understand your statement about RDM already being a pseudo Time Mage with with chainspell, slow, fast cast and haste.

Time mage won't work, most of the spells proposed can be given to RDM and SCH, some to even BLM and WHM. And don't forget we are getting geomancer, which is another support job.
