VanaFest Golden Gobbiebag Giveaway Blank Page Bug

    Hi There!

I've got a NA SE account and I'm having trouble entering the contest.

    I go here: http://www.playonline.com/ff11us/index.shtml

    Then I click here: http://www.playonline.com/ff11us/event/vanafest2012/index.html?id=gobbiebag

    Then I click here: https://secure.square-enix.com/enqt/e/NMB2012NA/html

...which takes me to an SE account login page. I log in and it takes me to this page:

    https://secure.square-enix.com/account/app/svc/login?ret=https%3A%2F%2Fsecure.square-enix.com%2Fenqt%2Fe%2FNMB2012NA%2Fhtml&cont=enqform

...which uses the SE template (logo top left, footer with about/privacy/copyright). The main div on the page is blank.

I have tried the following combination of browsers, OSs, ISPs - none with popup blocking, adblocking, script blocking, firewalls, or anything else that would create a problem:

Windows 7: Chrome, Firefox, Safari, IE (ugh) on sonic.net
    Windows 7: IE on AT&T
OSX: Chrome, Firefox, Safari on sonic.net
Windows XP: Chrome, Firefox, Safari, IE on sonic.net
Windows XP: Chrome, Firefox, Safari, IE on AT&T

All exhibit the same blank page behavior.

When I view the source of the blank page in the last URL I pasted above, and check the web console, I see the following errors:

main.css, line 973, "Expected end of value but found 'px'. Error in parsing value for 'width'. Declaration dropped.
    swk.js, line 58, "a is null"

So... are either of these things causing that blank page that's not allowing me (and apparently ONLY me, since no one else is reporting this) from entering the Gobbiebag Giveaway contest? Could it be something with my specific SE account? I'm able to log-in just fine to both FFXI and these forums.

I've already gone the support route (ticket number 1687731, please reference it!) and they suggested contacting my ISP even though I've gone to the trouble of testing this on two ISPs and a variety of hardware and browsers.

The clock is ticking, there are only 2 more days left in the contest...........

Update: I've since gone to a neighbor's house and pleaded to use their connection which is on yet a third ISP: Comcast. I used their Windows XP desktop (with about 4mb of RAM, thing was slower than Genbu) and got yet the same result. I now absolutely refuse to believe there's any sort of blocking going on at the ISP or browser level. Please hurry and fix whatever's wrong so I can enter the contest.

    Teegrins, Enochroot!

While waiting for an official answer, here are some thoughts I would personally look into if I were having the same issue.

If you had not tried so many different methods already, I would have suggested something simple and quick-to-try like SystemRescueCd.

But it is indeed quite unlikely that the issue lies there, since you have tried so many different things. Only thing I can really think of is a router problem, as in router on the way to the destination, not the modem you may or may not have (and I do believe some different ISPs might use the same routes here and there, though that's just my uneducated guess). Following the last link you mention not loading correctly, does indeed load up just fine for me.

Could you perchance try a 'traceroute' or 'tracert' to the address 124.150.158.110 and 199.7.71.231?

The latter is of VERISIGN.COM and seems to change a lot and has possibly nothing to do with this issue, but as it is obviously the 'verisign' that appears, or should appear in the middle with the log-in boxes (which I understand are not appearing for you?), I figured that might be worth not disregarding completely.

I'd also suggest trying the European link but it seems to connect to the same places (might still want to try it out). You would be unable to actually complete the survey, but that part comes after logging in obviously, so I'd try that just for curiosity's sake if for nothing else.

    As for that error in main.css, I am quite certain it has nothing to do with this issue either. I've not yet looked into this too much so I can't say for sure what it means in this case (thinking of more like a warning about the width not playing along with something), but I can say that I do get it just as well with the other dozens of 'regular' java-script errors. ^^;

    Just some thoughts~
    Best of luck to ya!

Thanks for the reply. I've tried using the European link and I get the same blank page (not the region error, which means it's not getting far enough to do the region check or it is and it's unable to display anything).

I've then gone one further - since I'm in an EU LS, I used a screen-sharing app to login to the NA site from a friend's PC in the UK... same thing, blank screen... even logging in from another country!

    Here are the traceroutes:

I know the question you're going to ask about my first hop being >1ms... My main desktop is connected via CAT5 to a wifi router which is bridged to another wifi router which is then connected to the LAN side of my ISP's router. Regardless, I'm hitting both of those IP's - even if they are a bit slow, it shouldn't be NOT loading something based on ~200ms delay.

The secure.square-enix.com cert looks OK. Any other ideas?

Personally, I think there's something funky on my SE account. Some flag not set properly or something. I think the JS is trying to load some information on my account object and isn't failing gracefully. I'm really disappointed in not being able to participate in the giveaway, as that Ark Scythe is the only All Jobs scythe that can be used for proc'ing...

OK so at least you're not being dropped somewhere on the way.

Been testing a bit and can't reproduce the issue at all.
Once I thought I might have had something by disabling automatic redirecting, entering account info, then deleting cookies (i.e., getting rid of the log-in data), but as I tried it again just now, it would take me to a VanaFest themed site with an error message (unknown error ha), instead of taking me back to that log-in page as I thought it did before.

After logging in, it should redirect you to something like this: https://secure.square-enix.com/enqt/...febc12bdcf8423

The link will be different each time though.

Only way I could get the page to not work right now was by turning off Jave-script, which obviously cripples the site quite completely, heh. Probably far fetched but, is it up-to-date for you? (Again, seeing how many different things you have tried, this doesn't seem too plausible).

The idea of it being account related for some reason is seeming more and more valid though, as there indeed seem to be no other reports about this, but I'm not quite sure if I'd bet on that just yet.

I'll keep trying and thinking, and will let you know here if I come up with anything else!

Yeah, I keep everything pretty much up-to-date - in fact my main browser is the Chrome dev-channel release on Win7 and OSX - because I like to keep on the cutting edge. But like I said, I've tried this on a variety of browsers, including downloading and installing fresh browsers (Firefox/Safari).

The best SE support could do was tell me to call my ISP - which doesn't do any good if it's not working on 2 other ISPs as well. Then they suggested I post here. But the clock is ticking...

Contest ends tomorrow... is someone going to acknowledge this problem or leave a long-time paying customer out in the cold?

IDK what you expect. Website works fine for me, My brother, Even used my Grandma's PC at her house. So its up and running.

Its on your side somewhere. Make sure you don't have NoScript active, if you do, Allow the page. I don't know what to tell you, they can't fix your computer/internet, and the site works fine for everyone else.

Its not that I'm unsympathetic, But the issue is on your end somewhere, Just need to figure out what it is, and that unfortunately is not their responsibility.

Just to be thorough..have you run a malware scan? It's possible you could have a DNS redirect going or something that is preventing it from properly linking by the FQDN's for the verisign portion or something. Could even be your ISP's servers creating a problem for that matter--could check that through the site the FBI had partnered with about the the big DNS Changer scare.
