Just curious as to why you can post an announcement of "emergency maintenance" at 00:29am, but that said "emergency maintenance" can wait 9:30 until its in NA times?

Hmm not sure what you're asking, but they usually do maintenance based on JP midnight+ not NA. And it's considered emergency because it's happening on the same day it's announced.
I really don't understand your post. Are you complaining because we have our maintenance early in the morning when most NA players are at work/school/sleeping in?
If anyone should complain it should be EU players; they always have maintenance during their evening play time.
Or are you complaining about the timing of announcements? While I was playing, I had an announcement 2 hours in advance, then an hour in advance, a thirty minute advance, and then an announcement every few minutes onward until it reached 10:00. (By the way, that's at 2 AM JST, not midnight.)
It square , there still 5 years behind , no emergency update should ever shut the game down now days, most stuff now days should be on there servers to fix not some patch some one can look into. Only data we should be getting anymore is graphics enhancements. Rest should be on there end but there still stuck on those that waste time on dial up.

yeah, they do the maintenace at 2am JST, when most of the JP players have likely logged off, as to not inconvenience them? and that 10 am is PST, i live across the country, where the 3 hr maintenance kills most of the afternoon, since its starting at 1pm...
as sc4500 said, most games dont even need to take their servers down for maintenance anymore, why cant square get with the times and stop expecting us to accept outdated practices from 10 years ago? guess they have never heard of hotfixes....
You're playing a PS2 game, remember?
sometimes it's best to err on the side of caution and update systems while your databases aren't exposed to changes from the outside. Periodic offline updates and even backups actually are a somewhat common practice for mission critical operations (companies with the resources may take a replicated database offline though to do maintenance and then resynch later, to avoid extended downtimes). Granted, it may be a bit overkill for FFXI...but they are a bit of a peculiar lot at SE.
