Comet was probably intended to be a Dark Elemental Ancient Magic spell.

"Comet" has been in the game for a while. Absolute Virtue casts it and so do a few other mobs. The mob version of 'Comet' uses the 'Meteorite/Impact' animation however, not the player 'Comet' animation which was only recently added a year ago. The name of the animation file for the mob version of "Comet" is "Meteor".
The mob spell "Meteor", the kind that King Behemoth or Botolus Rex casts uses the animation file "Meteor II" and has been in the game as long as the game has been out. You can think of the different asteroid spells to be Meteor(Impact/Meteorite), Meteor II(Comet) and Meteorga(player BLM Meteor) Meteorga II (Mob Meteor or as called in the .dats as Meteor II).(0)
