Edit your registry to upscale your FFXI, assuming you play on PC.
Answer: Because the PS2 can't support better graphics and SE won't discontinue support for it.
Editing the registry only goes so far because of the low texture resolution. It is possible to replace textures in the dat files, but that would be a massive undertaking, and would also require more disk space, something that is not available with the console versions.
well this would be a good idea, just, the PS2 users would have the crap end of this deal
I would welcome such a thing, but, this will never happen.
It's not about the PS2 not being able to handle it. They could just update the PC and Xbox client to display better graphics, PS2 users would still sit on their old graphics, but the game itself would stay the same for everyone. However, the chances of them putting that extra effort into FFXI has about the same chance as them releasing a PS3 native client. Doubt it's gonna happen.
It is about this. It would be viewed as unfair to upgrade one client and not another. It's not about the PS2 not being able to handle it.
Down with the PS2 version of FFXI!!!
The clients are already different. Graphics are already a lot better on PC and Xbox than on the PS2, even without Windower/Registry/Graphics hacks. PC client has simply more options to make the graphics look better and I've never played the Xbox version myself but from what I heard they also have graphical features the PS client doesn't.
