Right now Bill Gates is laughing maniacally in his skull shaped volcano lair.

If by Hewlett-Packard, you mean Xerox, then yes.

Also, this has absolutely no relevance to FFXI because FFXI doesn't run under Mac OS in a supported configuration.

Responsible how? What did he actually do?

A man died, a man like everyone else. Only he was a scam and a fraud, and horribly annoying to boot. Actually... that is like almost everyone else. My condolences to his friends and family. To the people who think he was special: get over it.

He has been their marketer for years, he has not innovated anything in that time.

People are crying over the death of a CEO who made more money in a year than they will in a lifetime.

Excuse me for having zero pity for him.

    Actually... http://www.thegatesnotes.com/Personal/Steve-Jobs

As for how Steve Jobs has relevance to our ability to play FFXI, in short: Without Steve Jobs, the Apple II would never have taken off - would never have been made, most likely. Without the Apple II, the Personal Computer would not have become A Thing.

Additionally, while Jobs was indeed very rich, I think it's worth pointing out that most of that value was through shares of Apple stock and Disney stock - and he got the Disney stock as part of Disney's acquisition of Pixar.

Steve was certainly not a perfect person, but it's undeniable that he changed the world, and I think at least this thread ought to be one of remembrance, of respect.

    Spoiler!
Like every good internet argument, this post features a Hitler reference. If you can see it coming, you get 5 imaginary points.

Outrageous lie. The PC was unavoidable from the moment Alan Turing theorized his ideas of computation. Nothing that Jobs did or didn't do would have changed that, or even put a dent in the technology. And even without Turing it was just a matter of time. Computers are a natural part of evolution. It was the next step from where we were before. We're where we are because this is how it had to be. Not even five more world wars and an ice age would have stopped computers, let alone old Stevie.

And let's assume for just a second, that Jobs was in some way necessary for computers to have emerged, it doesn't mean that he's responsible or that it's even his doing. It's coincidental relevance, not an achievement. It's like saying that without Hitler humans wouldn't have gone into space, because he shaped the world like he did and made people work on certain sciences that were for military application at first, but eventually, allowed space shuttles to be built.

This thread ought not to exist in the first place. This forum is for and about FFXI, and even if by your logic Jobs is responsible for it, he is still not a part of it and shouldn't be discussed here. You don't see me making a thread to hail Leonhard Euler (who, by the way, deserves it a lot more than Jobs ever could).

    Greetings!

Because the thread can be tangentially related to how people play the game, it will not be locked or deleted at this time.

However, some comments are already taking a negative tone regarding the death of a person. To keep this thread open and available, please make sure to keep any comments respectful and any arguments that occur civil. There may certainly be disagreements about this person, as there would be about any person, so please keep these things in mind when posting a reply.

Any reported comments found in violation of the FINAL FANTASY XI FORUM Guidelines will be edited or deleted accordingly. Should this thread lose focus on the connection to FINAL FANTASY XI, it may be locked or deleted.
