I'm glad you included your monitor's stats, I wouldn't have been able to answer this question otherwise.

<sarsasim>FFXI is a game from 2001, you need at least 2 6 core processors, 16GB ram, Video card with 2GB DDR5 and 4 TB HDD for minimum requirements.</sarcasim>

Yes. You can play the game on extremely nice settings without any performance-related lag. What speed is your hard drive? 7200 RPM? The speed of the hard drive is the biggest factor in how fast the game is able to pull up dozens of character/monster models at a time in areas like Jeuno and such. Also, you are still limited by the speed of your internet connection.

Short version: Your PC can run the game perfectly. Only real limiting factor is internet connection. Recommend maximizing your settings, here's a guide for how to do it: http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Graphics

I've had a ton of pcs over the years that should of been able to run FFXI flawlessly out of the box, many of them had horrible lag problems with it.

The problem with FFXI is not the system specs it requires but the unwillingness for the devs to keep up with drivers/directX.

It usually takes me a few hours/days of messing with old drivers to get the game running anything like how it should.

He has an HD5770 and an AMD chipset, those problems don't apply.

The issue you're talking about was with Intel chips and newer Nvidia graphics cards.

Edit: And to be fair to the devs, the issues were Nvidia's fault, not SE's.
