Are there any reasons why SE wouldn't give SAM a C- Katana skill or better?
NIN: Great Katana C-, Katana A-
SAM: Great Katana A+, Katana (x)

What would you do with a Katana that doesn't have Blade: Jin/Hi? Not to mention a crappy skill rating on a 1 handed weapon.
Oh, something crappy like Blade: Ei for procs maybe?
Perhaps getting access to Blade: Ten and Blade: Ku as well, but without those it wouldn't be of much value, that's true.

Even with those 3 WS it wouldn't be much use anyway.
the only use for giving sam katan and those 3ws is abyssea proc, war+sam would cover all red (instead of war+nin) but one of em would need to use /nin, /thf or /dnc to get dagger red trigger
if anything, i'd rather take some native archery WS
They might be considering it.
But yeah, there should really be some reason to it I guess.
Personally, I always thought they should be able to use some of them, even if not dual-wielding.
Ninja can use certain Great Katana, so... yeah!
That should be reason enough. ^^;
As a side note, I think they should really have some Archery weapon skills as well.
...or so the legend says.
I would like to see SAM with Katana skill just for the sake of having some extra procs so it'd be more useful for lowman Abyssea farming. My Masamune gets dusty ;.;
And yeah, there's another thread about it but it is kinda silly SAM can use relic bow but can't use any archery WS natively. You can see how they wanted to make SAM like historic samurai which did use bows and polearms, which is probably where people get the idea of dual wielding GKT and katana, like having a katana and wakazashi. Think about it though, you could replace the strap with a visible wakazashi as a new type of item, it'd give you a little more variety in what to equip and just plain look cool
