How badly is Fishing broken?

Hi all.

I used to fish on main several years ago before the fishing bots arrived and took over, so I quit.

I tried again on a mule maybe 3 years ago and quit, tried again last year and was able to fish some while waiting for the Goldsmithing Guild to open in Bastok Markets.

Now I am trying again on another mule, brand new starting out Fishing, no skill levels. My mule is almost 1 year old. I have tried using Yew fishing rods and the Halcyon Rod I made in Alchemy long ago and Little worms. I have tried other bait to no avail. My catches have been 4 Rusty Buckets, 2 pair of Rusty Leggings, 2 Dark Bass, a Dark Eel (all from Bastok Markets). Then everything came to a grinding halt with a long succession of "you didn't catch anything" messages. I moved to Port Bastok, same thing, no catches just "you didn't catch anything." I moved again to Selbina, caught 5 Greedie, 1 fat Greedie, a pair of Rusty Leggings and a Zalf- something Bass. In Selbina I gained .03 Fishing Skill. Again, I started getting the "you didn't catch anything" messages and even though I have gone back to Bastok Markets, I am catching a big fat nothing. Still now continuously getting those "you didn't catch anything" messages.

I know that Bastok Markets may not be the best place to fish, but I have had better success than this here in the past.

So what did SE screw up this time? I understand it was necessary to do something to stop the bots, but if I can't catch anything, I can't skill up. I guess I could go to Sandy or Windy and see what happens there.

In the meantime, if anyone has any idea or can direct me to the last Fishing update from SE, I would appreciate it. All I am really trying to do is get my own Rusty Leggings and Subligar for Nin Scrolls, plus if it seemed worth it to fish for cooking, I would do that, but not at this rate.

Tried again Port Sandy - again keep getting the message "you didn't catch anything" I give up.

I'm guessing your mule(s) aren't at least Lv20. The anti-RMT thing prohibits characters with a current main job lower than that from catching fish the same as it does for ones that are less than two weeks old.

No, because most of it's profit comes from NPCing. It would make it's profitability more accessable.

My mule is level 34 and almost 1 year old. Another mule was level 24, is 4 years old and could fish up Nebs at least 10 months ago. I will try it on that mule and see what happens.

Perhaps this is why OP isn't catching any fish ^^?

Either way, he shouldn't be catching rusty items since it says in the log you've hooked a useless item.(that doesn't give skillups). The only reason he would catch them is if using a bot.
