I know this was requested on the Japanese forum already and just wanted to echo the interest here.
I would really like to see FFXI transitioned to a PS3 compatible game. It doesn't need to be an HD version or provide any additional functionality over the PS2 version - just a straight port that is available for purchase and download on ANY PS3.
Sony has essentially blocked all playstation support of FFXI state-side for a while now with the withdrawal of the original PS2 and HDD and the removal of backwards compatibility in 80% of the PS3 systems. A solution for the more popular PS3 Slim models would be fantastic. My heart was set on FFXIV for the PS3, but it will still be a ways off and at least for now doesn't provide the level of immersion and fun as FFXI.
Yes... you can still piece together a compatible PS2 and expansions for a few hundred dollars. Yes... you can just get an x-box 360. Yes... you can put together a PC gaming rig (even lower end given the age of FFXI) that has HDMI support. Yes... you can get a mac mini and run the game in parallels or boot camp... I'm not saying there are no options for the controller/big screen crowd - just saying it would be great to be able to use the PS3 to play and I believe there would be a market for it in both existing and new players.![]()
